Re: Folding on big servers

So the best cpu filler criteria is one slot every 16 cores (not threads) ?

Folding on big servers

There are big servers like DL580 with over 40 cores for sale fairly cheap, are they worth the work for cpu WU? what setup do you suggest?

Re: is it me or just another shortage

I see gpu wu are more or less becoming available while nothing nothing appears for cpu.

Is there something specific to cpu type or is just the overweming number of requests exausting the available wu?

Are there hints about what type of system is more usable at this time?

Re: Radeon HD 4850: Failed to get assignment from 'assign-GP

No risk of getting dropped easily, it happens only after years at major technology changes. The "hd4xxx or less" phase out is because OpenCL is supported from hd5xxx. One highlight on WindowsXP needing AMD/ATI driver no newer then 11.12 because XP is phasing out too, it may be tricky to ha...

Re: Intel MIC (aka Xeon Phi)

My wild bet is on having a strightforwared x86 multicore support. Microsoft is talking about multicore support since a while and having x86 instruction set without common software developement support is going to be unexpected to me. Said this I think there is a probability for folding needing just ...

Re: Best upgrade pattern

Yes, is not meant to underline a problem but to avoid problems, as a sample is easy to find an hd4xxx but better to add a little money and get a hd5xxx or newer to have a good longer lasting folding GPU. While the hd4xxx is still completely usable for other uses. About NV vs AMD-ATI in my experience...

Best upgrade pattern

Is the following a good guideline for who wish to upgrade a GPU for folding? any better info is welcome. Older then HD5xxx may run out of WU in not too far future. If you have WindowsXP there maybe some driver support issues for HD7xxx. You must stay with 11.12 at the newest. No such a limit for Vis...

Re: HD 5670 Stopped Folding

You may want to uninstall the new drivers and install a version of CCC not newer then 11.12 to have a version of opencl working under windows xp

Re: GPU Core Crashes (Or at least it doesn't work)

You may want to uninstall your current drivers and install the last known usable for windows XP (11-12_xp32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe)
