Re: Couple of questions

Mea culpa: it does only limit one core's utilisation and it only keeps the other cores from being pegged . Originally, I used 90% and it appeared to affect all cores since they were all hovering between 90 and 100% (with other background tasks running, of course). I used 50% and it is quite clear th...

Re: GPU Core Crashes (Or at least it doesn't work)

Yay! (I like memtest* better)

I take it a Win8 compatibility fix is also in the works? (someone elsewhere reported that it didn't work)

Re: Couple of questions

I did use the throttling option with SMP:4 and it did lower utilisation on all four cores per perfmon. What percentage did you set that would give you a total CPU utilization of 80% on a Quad? Core options | cpu-usage cf. https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... tUserGuide This setting is global...

^^ Right on. - Basing decisions on guesswork is bad policy; just go with the facts as they are presently, which is what you did - Know that 2 years in tech is like 40 people years (or 280 dog-years heh); therefore, going with information available at the time is all you have - I kept my first vehicl...

Re: Couple of questions

Yes, there's a way to limit CPU by percentage; it's a flag somewhere (sorry, can't tell you where, wiki perhaps). I've found that CPU folding is really unobtrusive (OS scheduler), even when gaming. Technically, I suppose your CPU's lifespan can be reduced from, like, 50 years to 45 years but effecti...

Re: Multiple P10502 WUs dumped, probably not bad WUs

You can check the TPF; if it jumped (took longer), then the GPU probably dropped to safe clocks.

Re: Beta-GPU-WUs vs. BIG-SMP-WUs

well, two things. While I think the PPD should, and will be determined on the 'equal points for equal work.' : I am not so sure the investment and Wattage comparisons are so far off. I agree in that the results (WU produced over time) are all that matter; how those results were produced is immateri...

Re: Is it safe to leave my PC running 24/7?

I don't disagree; my N51Vn folded great for a few days and there would never be an issue; I just didn't want to have to clean it monthly as, unlike my desktops, the laptop case doesn't have air filters or facilitate cleaning with quick disassembly. I didn't want to scare anyone off.

Re: Is it safe to leave my PC running 24/7?

If it is built and maintained properly, it is safe. I have four PCs folding 24/7 and I've always left my PCs on since ~1991.

I don't fold w/my laptop as it is far more difficult to clean and I don't want it sucking dust. It's GPU is pretty weak anyway.

"Empty work server assignment"

Our economy is so bad that both GTX260 slots can't get work since 09:23Z; restarting client doesn't fix. assign-GPU.stanford.edu resolves to vsp10v-vz01.stanford.edu and reports OK. 12:40:53:WU02:FS00:Connecting to assign-GPU.stanford.edu:80 12:40:53:WU02:FS00:News: Welcome to Folding@Home 12:40:53:...

Re: GPU Core Crashes (Or at least it doesn't work)

You can run GPU-Z's render test to put the card in 3D mode and run memtestG80/CL concurrently. Test about 200MB less than what your GPU has total.
