I have problem having to work GPUs. No matter what settings in the priority in both GPU/CPU client, WinAFC and Windows. The CPU client would take all the usage to itself. I guess something is wrong windows 7 because same with vmware.

Re: Windows 7 - All Windows 7 comments go here.
Dealing with priorities when vmware is involved is a real mess : vmware runs at normal priority while the fah client runs at different levels of low priority.
It is not specific to 7 ... I gave up running two NV clients + 1 SMP linux under vmware on XP because I wasn't able to solve this issue.
By the way, the GPU2 + cpu client (uni or SMP) should run well on 7 if the priorities are set well in client configurations (low for gpu2, idle for cpu).

folding between WinXP and Win 7
Hello!
I am a beta tester for Win 7 and lately I am spending alot of my g33k time on Win 7. So I would like for FAH to resume work where it left of from WinXP or Win 7.
And since the AMDCAL*.dll are different in WinXP and Win 7 I have deleted the two files from the APPDATA folder so they now use the ones that are in Windows/System32 folder.
IS this correct procedure?

Just a note, if you haven't noticed it - if you set VMware's priority to different than Normal, when you start using it, it will automatically switch it back to Normal.

All windows 7 comment goes here.

You may want to save your UserID from XP (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PandeGroup\Folding@home). Export it from XP and import it on 7. I don't think you'll have problems with CAL. Also you must move the working folder from XP to 7.

I dont think it has enything to do with Folding. It's W7. The comupter just freazes, mouse and keaboard dont work. And I have to take the power to get it started again.7im wrote:
Breakdowns while folding? Which client or clients? On what kind of hardware? The more info you post, the more helpful it would be. Thanks.
Mayby it somthing with the screen saver?, I'll test som more another day. And W7 have problems finding driver for a usb unit? Only usb unit I have is the mouse ant it works. Still W7 was naging about missing drivers, so...
At the moment I'm folding with Vista x64 on the same Pc with no problems.

Yeah I got that vmware stays normal. In order to get the GPU clients on Vista to work I use WinAFC to force them to higher priority. It work because I haven't seen any PPD drop. Right now I'm just running the GPU clients for now and switch back to Vista or XP.
Forgot add WinAFC did work on Windows 7 even though GPU clients were had a higher priority over the CPU it will still lower the performance as if the CPU had higher priority over the GPUs.

Re: folding between WinXP and Win 7
there is a problem with the CALs because the ones from the XP produce error in Win 7 and vice versa
But the problem is that in WinXP when I delete those CAL files it will automaticly reinstall them when I launch FAH GPU and thus when I boot into Win7 I have to manually delete them again in order for the FAH GPU to use the CAL from Windows7 system directory.
How do I force FAH GPU so that in WInXP it wouldn't reinstall those DLLs?

Use the console client.

Re: folding between WinXP and Win 7
I need the tray client because when I start games I have to pause folding otherwise games run slow. And with the console client I do not see an easy way to achieve this. Do you?

Normally I just kill (Control + C) the console client, I have it set to save every 3 minutes so worst comes to worst I loose <3 minutes of work (not the end of the world).

Re: folding between WinXP and Win 7
Ya that's the only con about using the console version. I've seen programs on the web that can take running processes and minimize them into the right side of the taskbar (whatever that spot is called with the tiny icons). I think that you can also run the console version as a background service which you could start and stop using custom batch files to enable/disable the services. I'm pretty sure the GPU client doesn't work as a service under Vista x64 though (or so I'm told).

Re: folding between WinXP and Win 7
I do not understand why in WinXP the FAHGPU client always needs to install the AMDCAL* files whereas in Win7 there is no problem if those files are missing it just looks for them in Win7 system directory.

Add "Services" to the start menu, you are then 5 clicks from stopping or starting it.
