how can I maximize get the most out of my pc

Post by pghguins »

Hey so i've been using F@H since I heard about it a few months ago and because I have decent hardware. Also when I got my PS3 I have it fold when I'm not watching movies/gaming. Just wanted to know how I can get the most out of my PC. I am currently running the GPU2 nvida. Heres some of what I know about my hardware.

AGEIA PhysX 100 Series PCI Card(probally not being used in folding)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz
3GB System Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra

I've tried running the cpu systray and gpu2 at the same time but the cpu one never seemed to get anything done... Any suggestions on what I should be runnning?

Thanks

Welcome to the folding forum, pghguins

Find the copy of FAHlog.txt that's in the directory where you installed the cpu client and post it here. We can help with that.

You started with the GPU client which is much faster than the CPU client, so getting the CPU client running will be a small change, but even small contributions are good for the project.

The PhysX processor does not provide enough accuracy to be useful for FAH. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=3605&p=34587#p34602

Hi, after I posted that I tried again by downloading the x86 cpu client again and it seems to be working only much slower than the gpu one. Here is the fahlog.txt with the section where it downloaded removed for better readability. If someone could tell me if this looks all normal or not I'm not sure really. Seems alittle slow.

Is that an E6700 or a Q6700?

If you read my earlier post, I said it will seem slow by comparison. The classic client uses only one of the cores in your 6700 Core2 chip. The nominal speed for that client is 110 points per day on a 2.8 GHz P4. Any one of your cores is faster than the benchmark machine, so you'll earn points faster than that, but it's still small compared to the GPU.

Project 4439 is worth 225 points. Three frames in 42m19s means 100 frames in 23.509 hours or 1.02 WUs per day so 1.02*225=229.7 PPD. Not bad, compared to the 110 PPD on a somewhat slower machine.

one thing i always tell people to do is go start/run/msconfig and go to startup and uncheck everything you dont NEED running automatically. some stuff you dont use, and some stuff you use but can get it through the start menu you dont need it running. all that crap in the system tray can cause thrashing too even at idle. dont forget to copy a shortcut to folding and paste it into your startup folder.
