Debian PC with GTX 745 stuck on red clock

Post by jak_2456 »

Hello! I am trying to fold on a Debian 12 PC with a GTX 745, but I have been getting a red clock icon every time I try to fold. I am running the official NVIDIA drivers.

Post a copy of your logs.

Most likely there are no available projects for that GPU because it is so old. If your logs have a lot of messages with an error that says "No appropriate assignment", then that would be the reason.

No assignments available. Which means no work available for that very old GPU

I had the same issue trying to run GTX760's in Ubuntu_Mate 24.04.

Amazon has ASUS RTX3050's for 200.00 ea { deprecated to 8bits & PCIe Bus power only! no 8 pin connector}
but they will pump out about 900K PPD. Be sure to update to the latest driver

I just looked at the logs and I keep getting "no appropriate assignment" as well as an HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE. I was able to fold with the same setup on Linux Mint.

Linux distro has nothing to do with this.
Your GPU is getting old, well, it is very old. Every day there will be less and less work available to it. Especially when nVidia more and more forgets about it

The setup is supported so you will get work units from time to time, but there will be times where there are no available work units small enough for it to complete. You can keep FAH running like you are now. When work is available, you will receive it. You can also turn on CPU folding which has more work available even for older systems.

Strange enough, switching to Linux Mint fixed the problem. I still get the red clock with CPU folding, but GPU folding works.

If you get a red clock when CPU folding then that means you've configured less than three cores, which is currently not supported. If you have three or more cores configured for folding then the CPU will always get work.

Switching to Linux Mint wouldn't change anything about the GPU. There was probably a batch of work units that was recently released that supports your GPU, and switching to Linux Mint just coincided with that.
