GPU load less than 90%?

Hey there,

It's been some time since I last visited, so this has been likely discussed before. 4090 here, folding p18448, and I noticed that the GPU utilization hardly reaches 90% (more like 87% average), plus the effective clock in my case is 2970 Mhz vs the set 3000 Mhz. I wonder why that is? I am not CPU bound. Is this a core_22 limitation or am I missing something?

Besides what is mentioned in that topic about a 4070, the 4090 has 16,000 shaders. Not all projects are large enough to keep them all utilized. You will see a difference between projects with about 100,000 atoms in the simulation as compared to those with several hundred thousand.

All clear, thanks, seems about right - at 95% utilization with p18601 now.

But are there any cause-specific projects which are larger and more appropriate for me then, so that I can set that as a preference?

All clear, thanks, seems about right - at 95% utilization with p18601 now.

But are there any cause-specific projects which are larger and more appropriate for me then, so that I can set that as a preference?
Alzheimers seems to get the most out of these cards.

Just FYI, with p18601 I am getting about 30 million PPD - insane...

Yeah, that is absolutely friggen insane. :shock:

More than 8.5x a R7900XTX... :cry: Why is AMD performance so absolutely abysmal in comparison to NV in FaH? It's really depressing.

In late 2020, F&H added support for CUDA on NVIDIA cards. Before that, all GPUs used OpenCL. This gave an increase in PPD of about 50% on the GTX cards I was using then. It's expected that NVIDIA cards will perform better than AMD, but not 8x AFAIK.
