Some people are experiencing the same problem in Windows. Wondering if it might be related to firewall or anti-virus or something like that. Do you have a list of all applications installed on your computer?

I had some transfer problems with VPN enabled. FAH worked when I disabled it for a moment. Though this only happened once.

I'd try renaming (or deleting/moving) %APPDATA%\FAHClient or at least %APPDATA%\FAHClient\cores

The download speed appears to be very slow. What's your connection speed and could you potentially try hot-spotting from your phone to see if that works or not?

I've seen at least three separate people on the forums have this stalling download of core 22 on Windows, even when anti-virus is turned off. There could be some system commonality between them or some bug in the client which only appears on some Windows installations.

Yeah, Download is very slow, the client download from the website is slow to.

I wonder: Have enough people simultaneously tried to upgrade FAHCore_22 to saturate the bandwidth of the server?

That seems unlikely since it's the same Windows users who keep experiencing it while other users - both on Windows and Linux - don't have this problem.

If it's the same users, then it's in their system or their ISP.

It's difficult to do anything if it's a problem being imposed by your ISP. If it's in your system, It's your firewall.

My system today experienced the same problem, in that the Work Queue status showed "Update_Core" but the Progress indicator showed 0.00. The log showed this:
"Core_00.fah
21:09:12:WU00:FS01:Connecting to cores.foldingathome.org:80
21:09:12:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: FahCore package has wrong core type OPENMM_22 (34)"

To my knowledge, the Core Update failure was not preceded by any software environment changes. Prior to the failure, I made no F@H configuration changes and made no changes to security software (Defender AV and Firewall and Malwarebytes, which is only enabled manually.)

System:
Windows 11 Pro, all updates
Nvidia drivers 516.94

Short answer: The only solution that worked for me was to remove the FAHCLient folder in C:/Users completely and to restore the folder from a previous system backup. The client then immediately downloaded a new work unit and successful commenced folding.

Here is what did NOT work:
• Rebooted the computer (after every attempted fix)
• Turned off Windows Firewall
• Removed all “Fahcore_22.exe” files
• Reinstalled Folding@Home
• Ran sfc/ scannow (no integrity violations)
• Restored deleted Fahcore_22.exe files (from Recycle Bin)
• Copied “cores” folder from another PC running F@H with nearly the same hardware configuration
• Turned off Windows Defender anti-virus
• Deleted all contents from cores.foldingathome.org
• Removed FAHClient folder from Users and copied over FAHClient folder from a recent system backup – this was my solution

I realize that my solution probably does not address the root problem for update failure, but I hope it useful for someone.

See this topic - viewtopic.php?t=38572.

The problem you encountered was due to a bug in a new version of the WS code the developer was testing, it should be fixed now. The "wrong core type" error message is from a link the developer put in to implement a suggested fix mentioned in that topic. Instead of reinstalling from backup, just deleting the WU and restarting the client software should have been sufficient to get you a new WU and stop downloading a non-existent version of the folding core.
