FAHCoreWrapper.exe do not works after system reboot

Post by raven562 »

Hi there! Got new bug after 7.6.last one update...
What I'm do:
1. fresh install of client
2. configuring it in username, team data, passkey. No other flags are used.
3. running it
problem is - when I reboot my system (it's rare, but happens) FAHCoreWrapper.exe displays error every time it tries to start. On CPU and GPU slots. There is error log:

A little exploration indicates that manual closing and starting FAH utility allows to continue calculations. But that is unusual behavior, everything should work without that manipulations, I guess

Please post the beginning section of the log, the first 100-200 lines contains important information for troubleshooting such as your OS, system hardware and and client settings being used.

Re: FAHCoreWrapper.exe do not works after system reboot

Since you have an AMD GPU, it might be possible that you're potentially encountering some bugs in the current version of FahCore_22 (0.0.11). The next release of FahCore_22 (0.0.12) might have some fixes. ETA for the release is very soon :)

PantherX appears to have misread the log and just focused on the Core_22 errors, the errors shown on startup of a CPU or GPU project WU using the A7 or 22 folding cores are the same. The error message is being passed through from Windows, it is not being generated within the folding cores or the wrapper process. Further information should be findable in the Windows error logs.

Looking over the configuration I don't see anything particularly wrong. though running under the admin account is not usual or necessary. Being run from the "W" drive is not the default, but it looks like the correct paths were passed to the client.

Getting back to the Windows error, briefly searching online seems to indicate failure to access a file or DLL, the errors reported in the Windows logs may help in determining which files. Since this happens after each reboot, but not after installing, it sounds like a permission is being changed or reset when your system is shutdown or started.

Thanks for answers!
I've look through that link to GITHUB. Do not find common issues on all 13 pages. Gonna try to find answers in Windows logs...

P.S.: FAH were paused all day and when I try to start it everything is working fine. Don't know what fixes it. "It's a kind of magic", you know :) Some type of timer, maybe?
All activities were games, Youtube...

Hi! I've done several system reboot and noticed, that issue with FAHWrapper errors is gone. Didn't do anything, just 3-5 reboots during one day.
Anyway everything is OK now, thank you for your response. Gonna folding@home further :)

Just wondering if you have any anti-spyware, anti-malware, anti-virus, anti-phishing, etc. software which could potentially interfere. If you have, you may want to exclude these locations (even in Windows Security Center):
w:\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient\

BTW, I just realized that you're not using the default drive. If you're using a software for mapping or folder re-direction, that could potentially cause an issue.

Have you been starting FAH using the shortcut that FAH installs?
Did that change ... or did you fix the clone of it that you've been running?

Hi, PantherX!

Thanks for advice, I've set exclusion in Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS). It is not a potential problem spot right now. I think if there were security issue between FAH and KIS, KIS reports me about that. Leave KIS settings for test.

I do not use any drive mapping software (as i know). My system boots up from *.VHD drive via custom boot loader (not mine design), so I don't know if these circumstances affects FAH software; I do not use any virtual machines. BTW I'm 6 month in project and only problem I got before - lack of tasks in March, early April.

That particular issue with FARCOREWRAPPER.exe appears first time I upgrade to a new version. And magically disappears after several system reboot two or three days ago :)

Hi, Bruce!
I launch usual FAH installer and then do not start FAH manually, it's starts automatically. There were several attempts to restart FAH manually while FAHCoreWrapper.exe encounters error, but I can't say that were successful attempts.

I've done several system restart after that and that's magically solves problem. (Sorry for mistiming :) English times (lingual) a bit difficult for me :) )

Do not fix any clones of FAH, not so competent to do that. Do not know what the "clones" are? That is processes I see in task manager?

Now I see that everything is working fine, so issue with FAHCoreWrapper.exe seems to be magically solved. I think in that way because:
1. Do not see any error messages and FAH is calculating right now.
2. Do not see any error messages after system restart (There were 2 reboots).
3. FAH client easily changes states between "on idle" and " while I'm working" and back. Using that option while gaming.
