New version not working and fahclient having issues

Post by MobileGamesMotion »

Hi.
I just installed 7.6, and its broken and the main core is broken. How do I install a version which is not broken like 7.5?

While I am far more interested in helping with 7.6.13, Just post your Log file.
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036

You can download the older version

Code: Select all

https://download.foldingathome.org/releases/public/release/fah-installer/windows-10-32bit/v7.5/fah-installer_7.5.1_x86.exe

There is literally no information in your post that could help solve the error, because we don't even know what the error is that you are getting.
Since thousands of people have been running 7.6.x for months, myself, the version is not "broken".

If you still have the installer of the old version, uninstalling the current version and re-installing the other one might be an option - but I seriously doubt that will fix whatever problem you are encountering.
Please post the relevant parts of your log, see viewtopic.php?f=61&t=26036. :)

7.6.13 is not as such broken, neither are the current cores - Many folders are using these with no issues ... It may be that your installation has some issues but what these could be will depend on many factors such as OS, setup, etc. and if you post your log as JimboPalmer suggests then someone should be able to help you sort them out.

I have been using 7.6 for a while without problem, but a couple of days ago I couldn't get FAH to work at all after a reboot. Re-installing didn't solve the problem, but uninstalling, including checking the box to delete the data, before re-installing fixed it. You won't lose your points so long as you have a record of your passkey.

My guess is that the data was screwed up and maybe that is the problem on MobileGamesMotion's instance.

Hi, sorry If I did not submit the data needed for you to troubleshoot my problem I did uninstall the fah with data checked multiple times, but the web interface and fahcontrol cannot connect to fahcore, which I did open. FAH did work when I was on an older version, so I'll try that first. Maybe the problem is because the exe file said it was made by a different company???
Cheers!

In the taskbar to the lower right of the screen, you should see a F@H molecule icon, click it (you may need to click an Up Arrow to see it ^)

The second item in this menu is Advanced Control, click it

On this screen to the left is a Configure button, click it

Now you get a screen with a Slots tab, click it

On this white field should be a cpu item, if not click Add.

By default F@H sets the number of CPUs to -1 meaning let the software decide.

You could choose 4 if you wish.

This "fahcore" you are opening, do you mean FAHClient? Normally FAHCore would be referring to one of the folding cores, FAHCore_A7, FAHCore_21 or FAHCore_22. You do not "run" those, they are started by FAHClient and passed the parameters to process a WU. FAHClient needs to be running in the background, started from the shortcut created by installation.

Now that log does show FAHClient was running, at a least as far as starting to configure a CPU folding slot. However there ia an error message I have never seen before:

Code: Select all

14:39:48: OpenCL: Not detected: Win32: 0xc0000094: Tnteger divide by zero
No idea what would cause that, perhaps no OpenCL support of any kind is installed on your Windows system.

Web Control and FAHControl communicate with FAHClient over the local loopback IP address 127.0.0.1 on ports 7396 and 36330 respectively. Has anything changed in the last few days to a firewall or anti-malware setup that would interfere with that? An improperly configured config.xml file could also be the problem, but that should have been deleted by an uninstall that included data.

Hi.
So I did open fahclient, and it did nothing. There is no icon in the icon menu. One thing was the download link for the old version I got had 32bit on it, and my system runs 64bit. I'll try installed the latest version of fah 64bit again. Also, then was a gpu file I found with the log. It is very wierd and contains gpu names I don't have.

I just tried installing the latest version of fah, and got this:

Code: Select all

FAH control stick says connecting.

Re: New version not working

The client downloads a copy of GPUs.txt, and periodically updates it. It is a combination whitelist and blacklist of various GPUs that the folding client might detect on a system.

If you have a firewall enabled, try temporarily disabling it and see if FAHControl can connect to the FAHClient process. Do the same for any anti-malware software running. If it can connect then, you will need to check settings in them to allow the connection. MS did push out some big updates recently, often those reset settings in their supplied software to defaults or add new restrictions.

I let fah through my firewall and my antivirus sees no viruses.

Check to see if the 127.0.0.1 address is listed as in the "Private" zone for connections.
