Re: updates on linux?
download the packages from the folding website, double click on the downloaded packages. that's all I did on Mint 18 and 19.

Double-click? I'm not sure that works on Ubuntu, but I'll give it a go.

Re: updates on linux?
Yes it does and Mint is based on Ubuntu. But no experience on Ubuntu.
Re: updates on linux?
It works in Ubuntu as well.
.deb packages are opened with a package maintainer.

Re: updates on linux?
Yes, it does work. But my question was about the software updater. Is there a repository that I can add to software updater to make updating easier?

Re: updates on linux?
For that to work, you normally would need to import a PPA, which FAH doesn't have.
They could easily create one on Github, but since the last client was active for more than half a decade, it makes little sense to do so.
You can easily uninstall the client, and install the new client after download.
As long as Control is installed, I believe your personal data is still in tact (meaning you don't have to re-set up your account).
Do correct me if I'm wrong here, since it's been a while since I've done this.

Re: updates on linux?
Your personal data is in etc/fahclient/config.xml. Linux, of course... So save this file for using in a new distibution, if you install one...
Im using Mint 20 pre alpha, and there fahcontrol doesnt work, because of the ubuntu 20.04 base.
Via webinterface and by editing config.xml you can control the client.
cheers,
Bernd

Re: updates on linux?
I have updated my installation (all the components, client, control, viewer too). Also, I don't want to mess up running WUs by other system updates.
First, click "finish" on the FAHControl.
Wait to finish and upload all the currently running stuff.
Install new version of the packages. (system will handle the update properly, i didn't need to care to uninstall the old version in Mint)
Install the system updates and reboot if required (i.e. kernel or gpu driver update)

Re: updates on linux?
I updated my 3 x 18.3 and 1 x 19.3 Mint laptops just downloading and installing over the top with no problems. That included one 18.3 where I decided to reboot before updating as it had been running for days, not realising that the "Finish" feature pause wouldn't survive the reboot. When I opened FAHControl on the updated system I was already part way through a WU which must have downloaded and started during the upgrade. No problems at all. I'd still suggest using "finish" before upgrading.
