Hi. I need some opinions and recommendations between a used GTX 1070 and a new GTX 1660 Super. Which of the two GPU is better?
Thanks.
Need some opinion, used GTX 1070 or new GTX 1660 Super

Welcome to the F@H Forum absolut_zero,
Please note that you may want to state that the primary purpose is of your GPU. Reason is that it can impact our suggestions. F@H aims to use your unused computer power so you build a system that suits you best. Of course, there are enthusiasts Donors who build dedicated rigs which are appreciated too. Assuming that you are after a GPU that will function as a dedicated folding GPU, then have a look at this topic: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=34510 and the post for some information: viewtopic.php?p=333014#p333014

I guess both habe same PPD in FAH but GTX 1660 uses less power.
Re: Need some opinion, used GTX 1070 or new GTX 1660 Super
lower power draw will equate to lower fan speeds potentially. any purchase for fah needs to consider the inherent cooling so don't skimp.
my 1070s are (so far) very reliable and produce (looking this moment across them) from 777512-881984 ppd.

Re: Need some opinion, used GTX 1070 or new GTX 1660 Super
I have no experience with either GPU but even though the 1070 is a bit of a beast I think I would lean towards the 1660 due to being a newer architecture which also has an updated version of CUDA (no idea if that makes a difference to folding though). But if they perform about the same then go with which ever one is the best price since they'll both be decent
Is that PPD range from a single card?HaloJones wrote:very reliable and produce (looking this moment across them) from 777512-881984 ppd.
Do you even fold bro?
Re: Need some opinion, used GTX 1070 or new GTX 1660 Super
I would second, third, fourth the 1660 Super.
It's memory is a lot faster. The 1070 has more cores (100 more) but it runs at a lower speed (100Mhz lower). Comes down to identical PPD, but the 1660 Super will run cooler, and less watts.
Avoid the single fan (both open and blower style) designs, but dual fan designs are good enough for this GPU.
If you can get a 1660Ti, get that one. It costs about the same price, but has a slight edge on the Super.
If the price difference is too much, go with the 1660 Super.

no, I have five running.FireFox-89 wrote:Is that PPD range from a single card?HaloJones wrote:very reliable and produce (looking this moment across them) from 777512-881984 ppd.
my highest is 1.1m, lowest around 700K
all the cards are aggressively cooled so run over 2000MHz. I always buy used and have picked up some great bargains although prices are noticeably up since lockdown.
this comparison shows the 1070 as faster and the current analysis being done on this forum of ppd shows the 1070 significantly ahead of a 1660Super.
the 1660Super has 1408 Cuda cores while the 1070 has 1920, the 1660Super might clock slightly higher (about 5%).
But even though I love the 1070, unless you can get one for less than a 1660Super you should get the newer card. warranty and lower power draw but it depends on your risk appetite

1070 has 512 more cores not 100.MeeLee wrote:I would second, third, fourth the 1660 Super.

GTX 1070: 1920 cores.
GTX 1660 Super: 1408.
You're correct.
I'd still take the 1660, though the 1660Ti. The price is almost the same as the 1660Super.
