New AMD Driver 20.3.1 seems good for FAH

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

New AMD Driver 20.3.1 seems good for FAH

If you are having temp/stability issues you may want to update to the 20.3.1 driver released today. It has lowered the temps on my Fury X by 2c. It also seems to have stopped a crashing issue on a fellow team members Vega.

Hm, I guess I'll need to test if my Radeon VII works finally correctly with these drivers. I have had to keep on 19.12.1, as those were the newest drivers before the new Adrenaline 2020 update. Folding worked fine even on 2020 drivers, but if I used a browser with hardware acceleration at the same time, that would cause hard lock with black screen...

You can also disable browser hardware acceleration to not get issues.

DeeGee, if your Radeon VII is a dedicated cruncher, you could try Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition Beta for Blockchain Compute. They have been around since 2017 and will remain "beta." They are not for gaming and don't worry that Radeon VII is not listed in the release notes.

Did they fix the issue when computer crashes while folding with GPU and browsing GPU accelerated browser?
Issue does not exist with 19.12.1, but reappeared in 20 series drivers

Blockchain drivers beta are not a good choice for FAH as they optimize for memory timings used in e.g. ETH but FAH is not memory limited but by GPU clock and shaders.

I have hardware acceleration enabled in Chrome & Firefox. The only blackscreen issue I have with Chrome is if I pause a video walk away let the screensaver kick in it will randomly blackscreen and stay that way until restarted. It has never taken down the whole computer. I don't use Firefox enough to comment one way or the other.

Is this while folding and on newest driver?

Yep, I went to bed last night with chrome minimized folding away. Came back this morning and just reopened the browser.

Your welcome. :D
I'm curious have you submitted a bug report with Amd? They have been hot and heavy with blackscreen fixes the past few releases. They can't fix what they don't know about. If this does help you'd be able to add feedback to make sure this optional driver fixes get mainlined too.

Yes, I have been on the blast with their support. Now I'm dealing with distorted mouse cursor in dual monitor situation, the bug which has been with AMD for decade.

Yuck, I feel your pain dual booting with Linux is why I don't use a dual monitor set up anymore.
