CPU slot gets "Empty work server assignment"

I have 4 cpus that haven't been getting any work units since last night. When I noticed the first one stalled (the 3 others were still working) I finally uninstalled the cpu then reinstalled it, which made it work that one time. When I came back later, another cpu was stalled, and uninstalling and reinstalling it did no good at all. All 4 logs are now saying, basically (but obviously with different time codes), the same thing:

What's up with this?

Apologies if this is not on the right forum.

Intermittently, I can not get any assignment from the servers. This can last for hours, right now the computers CPU has just been sitting doing nothing for 11 hours. But that's just an example, it seems to happen several times in a week. I'm lucky if I can peg my CPU for more than 6 hours in a row. Is the project low on WUs currwently?

I changed max packet size to 'big' and client-type into advanced, in the hopes that would increase available WUs, but that does not seem to be the case.

AFAICT there is no specific server that I should be assigned to. But the last one I got a WU for the CPU slot from was 171.64.65.124.

As you can see from the log, this is on Linux, client ver 7.4.4., Core i7 (4 cores / 8 with HT).

etc.... From here on, I only get work on FS1 (GPU), and the occasional error from FS0 (CPU) trying to get work from the assignment server(s).

Any ideas? Something wrong on my setup, or problems with the server(s)?

I've been having a problem with this server, which is empty and has no jobs to provide since last night, also with *.204, that is in the same condition. So, I have 2 cpus that have been idle for well over 12 hours now because there are, apparently no jobs in these servers for distribution. Seems a waste. A few weeks ago this was occurring over a weekend, which is somewhat understandable, but in the middle of a week?

The Mods and the PG are aware of a problem when a system is configured to use 7 CPU threads. I hope that this will be resolved soon but as a temporary measure, I recommend adjusting the cpus setting to 6.

Ditto, has been off/on the last cpl days on both semi-dedicated 24 core workstations - since late last night totally off...

I could get it back folding last cpl days by closing / re-opening client, now it's a no-go, nada, zilch...

The Pande Group is working this problem. It appears that there really were two or three different problems all causing the same results. For 7 cpus, I was able to get an assignment. Ditto for other settings for not-too-big CPU counts.

For 32 or 64 CPUs, there seems to also be a shortage of a different set of projects and that remains to be solved.

Please let me know if your observations disagree with those statements.

I'm also able to get work with SMP 7 slots, so this issue seems fixed for the time being.

Temporary workaround for machines with quite a high number of CPUs when they can't get work : instead of running one 32 core slot, try to split it into two 16 cores slots or four 8 cores slots ...

I'm just wondering, why not make the client automatically split the work if there is no WUs available for a higher core count? Of course that does not fix the issue if there's an error in delegating the right WUs (that are available).

This problem reportedly has been resolved. Please post if you find otherwise.

For those of you who split your machine into more than one CPU slot, click on FINISH and as slots complete their WU, you can increase the size of the remaining slot -- although if you make a large change in CPU-count to a slot with a small protein, you may run into trouble.
