Really? What are you using as a basis for that statement? What's your proof? Have a lot of experience with running a PHPbb3 forum?toTOW wrote:It's the best and easier way to maintain it...
Or it could leave a hole open that a Mod might fix better than one of the security patches. Without a basis for your statement, you're just guessing.toTOW wrote: ... and it would avoid security holes that might be included with mods

I'm basing on how phpbb mods work ...
For a phpbb update without mod, it's easy and fast to upgrade (juste replace the upgraded files).
But if you have mods installed, you can't do that because of the altered files ... so you have to manually edit all updated files ... or to overwrite them, and then edit them for the mod to be restored ... it's not very easy and takes time

When I owned a phpBB board, I found that the secret to security and updating was to carefully research my 10-12 mods before installing them. I selected only those that had a history of support, security, and updates when phpBB updated. At most, it took 30-60 minutes to do a full update, mods included.
Just my 2 cents' worth.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the new board. Any chance we can get a logo up there in place of phpBB's default?

That's exactly why I want to keep this board MOD free if possible. Since I'm doing a full version upgrade, rather than a minor version upgrade, it's going to take longer because the entire database needs converting.Dialer wrote:When I owned a phpBB board, I found that the secret to security and updating was to carefully research my 10-12 mods before installing them. Changing the logo is easy, we just need something nice to change it to.
