Re: Is this GPU too weak to bother with?
The NVidia 8000 series are too weak. The Pande Group announced plans to discontinue that type of hardware and projects that will run on them are very rare or nonexistent. I upgraded to a 750 Ti, skipping several generations, and I am very happy.

In addition to the older Core_11 work having gone end of life, it was never supported for folding on Linux.

Re: Is this GPU too weak to bother with?
Hello,
I have a similar GeForce card - GeForce 8600 GTS - that I just installed on a LinuX Mint AMD64 system. I installed the nvidia-cuda-toolkit meta package and the proprietary NVIDIA driver (version 331.38). After adding a GPU slot FAHControl shows the core READY but it fails to get a WU with "Empty work server assignment", and I'm wondering if this is actually true or indicative of some other issue. The pertinent log bits are below:

Similar card, similar answer. Sorry. As Joe said, this mature hardware was not supported in Linux, only Windows. But has since gone End Of Life in Windows as well. Maybe a GPU upgrade is in your future?
