GPU process fails hash check

Post by niio »

I just installed FAH. Two slots were set up, one CPU and one GPU. The CPU slot runs fine. The GPU slot waited until I moved the utilization slider to full then tried to start but failed with an I/O error on the hash check. What next? Here is my config and the log failure:

Welcome to the folding@home support forum niio.

1. Which version of Catalyst do you use to fold?
Catalyst 12.8 ist the latest driver known working well with Core16 and HD5870.
2. Do you OC´d your GPU? - If so, please use standart clocks.
3. Why don´t you update your WinXP SP2 to SP3 within the latest corrections?
Maybe this one reason for failing to fold using your HD 5870 - so please update your WinXP-Installation.

AMD-ATI dropped support for OpenCL on Windows XP over a year ago. I forget the number of the release of the drivers that had the last supported OpenCL package, but it was around 12.1 or earlier. So if you have a newer version you will need to completely remove it and revert to an older Catalyst version with OpenCL support from the SDK. Also check through the requirements listed here in the Windows Install Guide.

The 11.12 AMD device driver is the last version to support OpenCL on Windows XP.
How to provide enough information to get helpful support

Thanks for all the replies. It was the device driver. I had gone to 12.8 from 13.4, but now rolled back to 11.12 it works.
