I need help getting started

Post by Langley »

I just bought a new windows 8 desktop computer. I was folding on windows 7 which worked perfectly but when i downloaded folding today on my new computer it just keeps on saying "ready" (in blue) i have a Niviida GT630 and i5 3330, it's not letting me fold and i was also wondering how do i overclock?

Welcome to the F@H Forum Langley,

Can you please post the log file, especially the initial section which contains the system configuration and fah set-up, here with in the Code Tags (available in the Full Editor) so that we can get more information to help you out.

Please note that we don't really cater towards overclocking as it is a complex process and there are other forums which cater to such topics. You can start by visiting the forum of your favorite hardware review site.

The log is found in Advanced Control.

Overclocking is done though the BIOS, though I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you know what you're doing.

Please post the log in between Code tags, like There's some additional information associated with that error message that's useful to see.

For a complete answer, we need to see the log. But a typical answer is that some AV or Firewall software is blocking the fah client from connecting to the internet. This could also be an IPv4 vs IPv6 issue, so we need that log. Start/All Programs/FAHClient/FAHControl. Select the log tab. Copy, paste. Thanks.

If you are posting the log from FAHControl, please use the refresh button and temporarily uncheck the box "Follow" and then try to paste the log, specially the initial section which contains information about your system and your configuration. Alternatively, you might want to access the log file directly, assuming default installation, it should be in C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient\

One cause of "Failed to read stream" is due to insufficient privileges. Does F@H have read/write access to the location that you installed it in?

Another thing is that you configuration appears to be "missing":
Config: <none>
While I have this:
Config: C:/Users/PantherX/AppData/Roaming/FAHClient/config.xml

Not sure if this is related to the permission issue or not.
