Blocked database (Locked database?)
I recently have converted my PC to Windows8 64 bits.
I have re-installed Folding@home (I am folding since years under the Name [PCA]_FORDYCE Team 51).
The software works now on my graphic card (GEForce) and on one core of my Pentium processor.
Since then I am experiencing some problems :
-- First a WU has stayed working for more than fifteen days, has been sent to Stanford, without any points credit.
-- Secondly ; since four days the client stopped to send finished WU, see log :
15:13:25:WARNING:WU05:FS00:Exception: Failed to advance statement result: The database file is locked
15:13:25:WARNING:WU09:FS00:Detected clock skew (1 mins 01 secs), adjusting time estimates

Therefore the WU are piling up, and, obviously, nothing is sent out.
Does somebody has an idea to unlock this database ?

Welcome to the F@H Forum fordyce0593,
Can you please tell us which version of FAH is installed on your system? Moreover, could you post the initial section of the log (using the Code Tags found in the Full Editor) which will have the details like this:

Re: Blocked database
I have not used Windows 8, but in FAH v7.2.9 and using Windows 7, here is how to find and post the log file information. You can find the log file(s) by going here:
Start -> All Programs -> FAHClient -> Data Directory
The log in v7 is called log.txt and is located in the Data Directory. In that same directory you will see a sub-directory called 'logs'. There you will find a number of previous logs depending on how long you've been folding and which options have been set.
As PantherX said, you should include the information at the top of the log file (System Info and Configuration) as described here, as well as the part of the log file starting just before where the problem appeared.
When you are posting a log file extract, please enclose the log file extract in a 'code' window. You can do that by clicking on the 'Code' button above the editing window when you are typing a message. It makes the message much easier to read and analyze. Thanks!

Re: Blocked database
The only time I've ever seen"database locked" was when two copies of fah got started Please check if it was started automatically and you also started it manually.

Re: Blocked database
This is a very good point, you can check on the FAH processes by running Task Manager and looking at the processes that are running:codysluder wrote:The only time I've ever seen"database locked" was when two copies of fah got started Please check if it was started automatically and you also started it manually.
1) Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar, and left-click on 'Start Task Manager'.
2) Select the 'Processes' tab.
3) Click on the 'Image Name' title to sort them alphabetically.
You should see one (and only one) FAHClient.exe process.
When FAHClient is folding an SMP Work Unit (WU), you should see these 3 processes:
1) FAHClient.exe
2) FAHCoreWrapper.exe
3) FahCore_xx.exe (where 'xx' will be something like 'a3' or 'a4')
When a GPU WU is being folded, you will also see this:
1) another FAHCoreWrapper.exe
2) FahCore_xx.exe (where 'xx' will be something like '11' or '15' or '16')
The FAH processes will have '*32' associated with them, showing that they are 32-bit Windows processes.

Re: Blocked database
Thanks for a so prompt reply.
I am using Client Control version 7.2.9
Unfortunately I cannot get any copy of the stucked WU.
This is the beginning of the running log Slot 1 Queue 0 :
The other running slot 0 queue 9 :
I got this log directly on the disk, not through the software : See the beginning :
and the end :
The problem is coming with the Slot 0 working on the graphic card.
I am afraid I have to drop faulty WU's. Since I am not very aware of Folding@home procedure, I prefer to get advice before.
I would also get advice about the use of the graphic card. It is nice to process two WU's at a time, however this is productive if it works.
I have modified this message after receiving a new advice from Planet AMD64.
Thanks to everybody, I feel no more alone !

Re: Blocked database
Are you running fah as a service or switching users?

Re: Blocked database
I checked the task manager. I have :
2 instances of Fah control.
2 instances of Fah client.
8 instances of Fah core.
Unfortunately I don't know how to send a screen copy.
I'm afraid this is a little bit messy.

Re: Blocked database
I am not sure however I think I am not using Fah as a service since it is not included in this list.
Re: Blocked database
Haha could you put the code tags around the fah log portion of your post instead of your comments. That'll add the scroll bar and reduce the overall length of your post.
I see some duplicate lines in the log file. Can you check processes listed in task manager as art mentioned prior to your last posts. My first guess is that you have 2 clients starting up. Maybe one as a service and one in FAHControl?
Edit: And I see you posted some of that as I was reading/posting...

You're welcome, but you put the 'code' and '/code' tags around your text by mistake, instead of around the log file extracts.fordyce0593 wrote:I have modified this message after receiving a new advice from Planet AMD64.
Thanks to everybody, I feel no more alone !

OK, please give us the hardware information about your computer, like the CPU, GPU (graphics card), power supply, motherboard, RAM, and anything else you have. Also please provide the software information (you already said you have Windows 8) like the graphics card driver version. Thanks!fordyce0593 wrote:I would also get advice about the use of the graphic card. It is nice to process two WU's at a time, however this is productive if it works.
EDIT:
I see that you have the GeForce 9500 GT graphics card.

Re: Blocked database
From the log, I noticed that you have a GPU and SMP slot configured which is fine and that you are not running it as a service. Moreover, I noticed that you are missing a passkey. If you purposely edited it out and its fine. However, if you don't have one, you may want to consider getting one (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-passkey)
What you described in the Task Manager would suggest that you have two instances of FAHClient running and that is what is causing the issues.
BTW, after the installation, did you do something "special" or tweaked the system as I would like to know how you got two instances of FAH running on the same system.
A quick fix would be to do a full uninstall and make sure that the folder "FAHClient" in C:/Users/Michel/AppData/Roaming/ doesn't exist after the uninstall. You can then reinstall it and it should work fine.
A longer fix would be to determine how to stop the two copies from working simultaneously and then you can stop one copy while the other copy finishes and once it finishes, delete it and you will be left with a single copy.

OK, when you are in Task Manager, stop the processes in this order by clicking on the name (to highlight the process) and then clicking on the 'End Process' button at the bottom right:fordyce0593 wrote:I checked the task manager. I have :

You should do what PantherX said above, he was posting that message as I was typing this message.

Re: Blocked database
Yes, this sounds similar to what was described here. There appears to be something that a user is doing that causes two instances of FAHClient to be started.PantherX wrote:What you described in the Task Manager would suggest that you have two instances of FAHClient running and that is what is causing the issues.

Re: Blocked database
I have opted for the harsh method. I killed in the task manager the task who seemed to me stucked.
Then I made a reboot, this cleaned everything, I have now only two processes only running.
1 Fah control
1 Fah client
1 Fahcore_11
1 Fahcore_a3
2 Fahcore wrapper
I think this is correct. Everything is running smoothly since two hours.
Thanks to you all, you are really efficient.
