just one last thing. I have found out he is running XP64bit.
given that that is a really old OS now, what are peoples opinions on the need
to update to win7 in order to get full use of hyperthreading?

I mean can Win XP fully utilize 6cores 12 threads (given it has all updates)?

Not a whole lot of difference in age, and 11 months is hardly ancient.

Again, why is it not better to get and give this info directly? (It would help to avoid misconceptions, like fahcores being ancient when they are not.) ;)

If the system is dedicated to folding, it would be just as easy to upgrade to Ubuntu instead of Win 7. FAH on Linux performs fractionally better than Windows at this time. But if for personal or business use, no, a Windows upgrade doesn't change the performance of the fah client at this time either. Fah for Windows is still using a 32 bit fahcore, limited to 4 GB of memory.

Feel free to have "him" check the memory usage of the client/fahcore, but I doubt those 12 threads are using more than about 2-3 GB of memory.
