Re: Question
Like I implied earlier, FAH is is a serious scientific research program, not a video game. They don't award crowns, hats, etc.
There's nothing wrong with enjoying your video game, but the only way to earn points is to complete scientific work and that takes time and fast computers. The researchers are appreciative of your scientific contributions, but there is no free lunch. The points are directly related to the work you complete.
The fastest way to complete scientific work is to own a computer with lots of cores (8 to 24) and run the bigadv projects, but you have to complete 10 WUs before you can even qualify for the bonus points, and that's not going to happen in a day. With an ordinary home computer, you will be earning a few hundred points per day unless you can harness your GPU to fold for you.
How fast is your computer and your video device and what are it's other specifications?

Re: wrong team
How can you earn points as fast and also, what do you do to get points... I don't get it.
Re: Question
Welcome, a crown earned in one day is surely not a very valuable crownZaydoku wrote:i wish i could get points fast and get a crown. Is this possible to get anything in 1 day?
Every workunit you complete is a 'crown' in its own way as research done, but I guess you are folding for a team that issues these little incentives, hats of various sorts. Perhaps if you just want to earn a better hat you should ask there.
Here would be the correct place to ask how to maximise your system, if you wish to do that please post you specs, eg you processor or gpu type and model, operating system, how much time you have available to the project etc.

Re: wrong team
I suggest you read this as a starting point to undestand the project and what it hopes to achieve http://folding.stanford.edu/Zaydoku wrote:How can you earn points as fast and also, what do you do to get points... I don't get it.
Once you have read that then this is how it goes.
Folding@Home runs lots of projects - these projects are all cut up into little bits that you work on, each little bit that you complete and return to stanford earns you some points. These points are given in relation to the amount of computer time to finish the work unit and the amount of resource that they need. Download and install a client that suits your computer and off you go.
Throw a £70 nvidia GPU at the project and you will get 3000-5000 points per day,to get more points faster, give more computer resources to the project.
£200 nvidia GPU = 9,000PPD
£350 nvidia GPU = 15,000PPD
£600 i7 PC = upto 25,000PPD before overclocking
£3000 workstation upto 55,000PPD
£5000 server with 4 or more CPU sockets upto 160,000PPD

Re: wrong team
You install the appropriate client for your hardware, configure it, and you let it run. The client will download WU's; process them; and return them. When returned, you get points. How fast the points accumulate depends on the HW, the clients you pick, and how long the clients are allowed to run.

LOL there are no crowns. Only points... and "the points don't matter"
You cannot redeem them, you get no prize. The only thing you get is the pride that you're helping out science.
You get points by running the Folding@home clients and returning WUs. How many points you get is determined by the client, the project, system configuration, and sometimes a bonus value

Re: Platform Racing and FAH
These folks come from a gaming site that award their own prizes for the number of points the people fold. It's a strange system.

Strange it may be but if they are helping with the science then we shold do the right thing and help them out - even if they are going for crowns, hats and the like.uncle fuzzy wrote:These folks come from a gaming site that award their own prizes for the number of points the people fold. Perhaps we should point them to the stats sites and show the that if they stick at it the could be well up in the rankings, since that is what they care about

Re: Platform Racing and FAH
I wasn't trying to talk down the members of that team. I've checked out their forum and stats. Overall, there is a dedicated core of people doing good work. They also have people around the edges of the group who don't really know what this is all about.
My post was aimed at the following comment, not the PR2 folders.
