Platform Racing and FAH

Post by bruce »

From time to time we have people who are part of something called "Platform Racing" visit the FAH forum. If that includes you, please understand that FAH is in no way affiliated with Platform Racing though if it encourages you to contribute to FAH, that's good for everyone. We will be happy to help you configure your computer so that it earns points at the maximum rate, but nobody here knows anything about the prizes nor will anyone here redirect their points to your account.

They run the Linux SMP client. I have found that you can not always get an A2-Core WU but you can improve the odds significantly if your machine has 2+GB of RAM. So get a machine with multiple cores/processors; Install at least 2GB of RAM; Install the Linux OS; Install the Linux smp client and let it rip.

Do note, that it is generally cheaper and more productive to simply install the gpu client with a good Nvidia graphics card. You won't get 1920 points per WU but you can consistantly get up to 10,000 points per day (PPD) for each 9800GX2 video card. That means if you have two cards then that is 20,000PPD and three will get you 30,000 per day. That's much better than getting 3,000-6,000PPD that one can get with 1920 point WU's from the Linux SMP client.

Could you please be more specific. I don't know what you actually want: The location of the Linux SMP client or the GPU client; A place to buy a computer; or A place to buy a video card and then you still need to have an idea as to what your computer's specifications are ....

A generally good place to buy computer hardware is http://www.newegg.com;
Newegg's Nvidia 9800 GX2

More generally, they are running the SMP client (Linux, OSX or Windows, there are WU like that on each platforms).

Sorry, I don't know much about Mac's ....

I do know that if you are running a laptop, then buying a video card is out.
I also note that Mac's have their own client that is based on Linux SMP client: Mac SMP clients

Is the Mac the only computer that you have access to?
Might try to convince friends and family to fold on your side.

I am not going to question why you need 100,000 points. Any ethical reason you can think of that results in folding is a good one...

Your friends and family are a good place to start. You can also try to form a team from organizations or groups that you belong to: they would be good people to ask to fold for you.

Is the cpu downstairs a dual core, if so, then run smp.
