Ok, so i have my Athlon 620 @ 3.1 ghz and an hd 4650 disregard my sig, If i am just running the smp i get about the same ppd as running both smp and vga so power is not an issue so.
Which configuration helps folding @ home more scientifically getting the smp back sooner or having both an smp and gpu2 cores running

Faster return, means new work can be sent out. The science runs by you finishing 1 part, then the next person continuing on with where you left off.

If the PPD together is the same as the cpu alone, then you need another computer to house the gpu. One computer is clearly not enough.
But seriously folks, if the gpu isn't adding additional points, you're wasting power to use both. Just use the cpu.
