Thank you! I was running
Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.18-6-486

I installed the 686-SMP kernel and now its working properly.

Re: finstall fails to detect quad AMD processor

You are first to report about it. Try to run echo $(grep "vendor_id" /proc/cpuinfo | wc -l) from your terminal window. What number do you get? pfarrell@www:~$ echo $(grep "vendor_id" /proc/cpuinfo | wc -l) 1 pfarrell@www:~$ grep "vendor_id" /proc/cpuinfo vendor_id : Au...

finstall fails to detect quad AMD processor

I can't get all four CPUs in my Quad Penyrn to work (Debian 32). I know that the SMP client doesn't work with 32 bit linux, but I would expect to be able to run separate clients with unique machine ids and get them working. But finstall doesn't detect the quad. A little debugging shows that the key ...

fpd GLXBadContext

I'm a newbie to folding, so if this is a FAQ or belongs elsewhere, please give me a pointer I'd like to see something cool from my folding. It looks like fpd is the right tool for my Ubuntu 8.4 system. But when I run it, I get a flash of a window and it exits. When I run it with ./fpd -debug 9 I get...

finstall is a win, thanks. have it running on my quad, and a dual, and a single.

Any ETA on a SMP for Linux 32?
Or an ETA for GPU on Linux?

Re: Linux GPU and quad SMP without 64 bit?

There is no way that I'm willing to reinstall linux and reconfigure it, far too much involved. I tried running the client twice, and it fails, says A potential conflict was detected: Process 14795 is currently running and may also be a client with Mach. ID 1. Since I have four CPUs, I really want to...

Re: Linux GPU and quad SMP without 64 bit?

thanks for the clarification. Is there a reason for the requirement? Since its a 64 bit processor, and a quad, it should do the calculations as well. I would not expect the network IO to get work units to be 64 bit specific.

I guess this is more history that technical.

thanks

Linux GPU and quad SMP without 64 bit?

I've just downloaded a client for my debian etch system (32 bit). I get errors if I try to run smp, specifically it says I need a 64 bit OS. The CPU is a Quad Penyrn. What do I need to do to get it to use all four CPUs? Also, it has a ATI Radeon HD 2400XT GPU that I don't plan to ever use, the box i...
