Intel Quick Sync - Can it be used for FAH?

OK, just got through reading this article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the- ... 100-tested What struck me most was the transcoding performance of the dedicated paths in the new Sandy Bridge CPU. http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph4083/35055.png http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph408...

Re: Poll: -bigadv on a 32bit system?

32-bit applications are limited to 32-bit memory addressing, so 4GB is the theoretical max for the A3 core unless they re-compile it for 64-bit memory addressing.

Re: 171.67.108.22

Yes, the machine is LOADED to the hilt. RAM - not a problem. 12GB Cores - not a problem. 12 real, 12 virtual. Stability - not a problem. 4.05GHz for 3 months now. Never a hiccup, and there is headroom to spare. The 2682 errors out because the A3 core cannot allocate > 4GB for systems with more than ...

Re: 171.67.108.22

I'm having the same issue too.

My SMP -24 rig barfed repeatedly on a 2682 and now the server has not given it any work.

Such a crying shame for a machine like that to sit idle.

Re: Quick question

Yes, if you do not close the application and it is running when you lock the account, it is still folding.

Re: Frame Times on -bigadv Units

SMP crashes for me in Ubuntu, but not in Notfred's modified Slackware distro.

From my perspective, it looks like some things have been fixed, but there are still some issues to be resolved.

Sigh, guess I'm going to have to try that eval of VMware vSphere after all (PITA to install).

Re: Frame Times on -bigadv Units

I have the same poor results with VirtualBox : it's awfully slow (compared to VMWare VMs, even to install or to load Linux), and SMP client isn't able to run on the VB's VMs :( You should read this thread for instance : viewtopic.php?f=16&t=10449 Already read it, and the info in there is no lon...

FAH on VirtualBox.

Has anyone gotten this to work inside a VM? Virtualbox 3.0.2 supports up to 32 cores in the guest OS, but our team has had ZERO luck with core stability on the following distros installed inside VB: Ubuntu 9.04, Debian (rev?), Redhat, Slackware, and CentOS.

Now if someone would just FOLD on the 4850 and get us some numbers, some of us could start ordering parts for our F@H Farms . . .
