Re: dual core SMP PPD nosedive, proj 8571
It was actually running cooler than the other 3 laptops, but it had indeed downlocked. Took out the fan (luckily not requiring complete stripdown) and took out a small bit of fluff (I've seen worse) and its back to decent PPD now. Thanks!

dual core SMP PPD nosedive, proj 8571
I have 4 laptop basically identical, 1 I browse and download on, the others just do folding about 18 hours a day. They mostly get about 2000 PPD with a3 WUs. The one I browse on usually gets less, no surprise. One of the 3 failed to complete a WU before the deadline recently and had been showing 220...

I've been getting failed transfers multiple times to this server today, trying to submit results. In excess of 20. Progress sometimes gets to 80-90%

trouble installing FAH on a new machine
I have just built a new folding PC, a Q6600 on Xp Sp3, tried FAh fah-installer_7.1.52_x86.exe and fah-installer_7.2.9_x86.exe but both bring up a message saying the app cannot start because the config file is wrong. Never had this problem before on several machines, any hints ? I did notice, the con...

Re: Is it worth getting this cpu ?
OK , now I am considering another CPU, for a different mobo, Core 2 Duo Processor E8400 6M Cache 3.00 GHz SLB9J Is there a limit to how much benefit more L2 cache gives? I've noticed my other F@H clients don't use vast amounts of RAM, one P4 HT CPU is currently using about 46MB. I've tried upgrading...

Re: Is it worth getting this cpu ?
Thanks for your input folks, the heat, noise and electric bill costs are indeed of concern. I have retired from folding service a couple of machines recently, and not bothered to fix a laptop that I was going to fold on.

Re: Is it worth getting this cpu ?
I already have the board and the P4 3.06, the D 2.8 is an ebay auction of a used item, with a fan/sink i also need. I want to know if the 2.8 will fold better, with 2 real cores and the bigger cache, compared to the P4 with HT

Is it worth getting this cpu ?
I have recently bought another mobo for folding, it has a 3.06 Pentium 4 with HT and 2MB L2 cache. Is it worth buying a Pentium D 2.8 with 4MB L2 ?
I will also be running an Nvidia Cuda card on it.
