Project: 5102 (Run 0, Clone 152, Gen 57), too many steps?
Hi I was concerned that I might have gotten a WU with too many steps in it. It seems to take a very long time per steps. Project: 2671 (Run 47, Clone 24, Gen 72) is sloooooow
Hello. I'm currently folding Project: 2671 (Run 47, Clone 24, Gen 72) and it's using 4-5 hours per per cent completion and I doubt I will complete it before the deadline. What to do? --- Opening Log file [February 4 21:13:19] # SMP Client #############################################################...

Might this study affect F@H? [It helps F@h]
Hello. I just read an article from the Norwegian popular science website Forskning.no about a study which seem to challenge the 3D-view on protein folding (being a n00b so I can't understand the paper so I might have interpreted it wrong) I was just wondering if this could affect F@H and the results...

Re: Just curious, won't there be new diseases?
Evolution will make new diseases which aren't affected by the medicine (those who are affected will die and those who aren't will live). At least this is what happen with diseases which are of/by parasites. Depends of course, but that's what happen with antibiotics and I assume something similar wil...

No offense but it has only been a day. It's not like the world is going to end. They are probably going to fix it as soon as practically possible. I guess they probably don't have staff ready at all hours a day.

Re: Linux GPU and quad SMP without 64 bit?
As far as I know, the client was unstable/gave bad results when they compiled it for 32 bit, so they had to go for 64 bit. And it isn't enough just to have hardware supporting 64 bit, you need 64 bit software (kernel) as well. if you don't want to change to 64 bit, you should install 2 normal FAH cl...

Re: linux or windows?and dual core?
It's not recommended but you can run the SMP client on dual core. I would suggest that you run it with Linux because Linux is more optimised to SMP processing due to it's history as a server OS than Windows. Some WUs works about 10 % faster on Linux than on Windows. There are a script called finstal...

Re: notfred: How to take a proper backup and resume it?
I'm sitting on my laptop at the moment. It doesn't have enough cooling to be able to run FAH. My desktop computer's hard drive died, and instead of it just standing there off-line I thought that it could run notfred's disk less folding while I wait for my new hard drive to arrive. It is standing in ...

Re: notfred: How to take a proper backup and resume it?
Thank you for your suggestion for formatting tool, but I'm running OpenSUSE 11 and I don't bother to run it through WINE so I used fdisk to format it to FAT32. I will test it tomorrow.
Why does it get filled up? Is it the work units or the backup(s)?

Re: notfred: How to take a proper backup and resume it?
Is it very high chance of running out of space with only a 512 MiB stick? Don't think I can afford a new one at the moment.512MB will work to run AND store backups on but I would recommend 1GB.

But surely there are users of notfred here that knows how it's done?
I'll head over there anyway.

notfred: How to take a proper backup and resume it?
Hello I must shut down my computer for the night and I wondered how I then resume it afterwards? My uncle came on an unannounced visit and are staying over for the night so I have to shut down the computer (which is running notfred because of a defect harddrive). I know that I can go to the local IP...

Re: WU allocation
I've always wondered how they can verify that what they have is 100 % correct. For instance, what if one client, because of something weird, calculates one thing wrong which doesn't result in an EUE and it continue to go along. Won't that affect the validity of the WU as it goes along, since it is b...

Re: FahMon (multi-platform app to monitor various F@h clients)
Allright. Uhm ...It sort of hangs immediately the box comes up so I guess it hangs at downloading. However, I managed once to test to put the settings to go via "fahmon_wus.html" instead of online, but it still hanged. I am running on amd64, if that might give some indication. edit: Screen...
