hi all, i'm new in folding and just fold with GPU client, i have some question
1.my system is Pentium D 820 2.8GHz and HD4830 575/900 512MB at Win XP SP3, Catalyst 9.4,
what the best combination client to have max PPD with this system?
2.ATI VGA using big resource CPU, what is the best configuration environment variables for my 4830?
3.if i OC my system(prosesor or VGA) can i boost my PPD?, what the best configuration for that?
4.can my prosesor using VMware to get SMP client Linux? coz i have know that using SMP at Linux can boost PPD CMIIW
5. oh yeah i have get core 1.24, and i just know a moment ago with that new core,
the client can run automaticly when we start OS (i using systry client), cool
6. i just read that ATI have Fahcore 12, where that Fahcore? i can't get it until now
7.-verbosity, what is purpose that flag ?, and what the difference -verbosity 1 to -verbosity 9
8.-forceasm, i using GPU client and if i use that flag can i get benefit
9.-advmethod, i know that for get beta WU, but what the benefit for that, can i get bonus PPD for that
10.what the difference small, medium, big configuration?, that just amount of data that we get from server, or maybe we can get spesific project (example s=384, m=477, b=548), or maybe setting our client to spesific server , and what if i using systry client that just have 1 option, that allow us to get big WU, what the difference that configuration from console client
11.core priority, i have to use low or slightly higher? in that case that with my 4830 that using big resourse CPU, or maybe i have to use console client that have low/idle setting, what that difference of low and idle at console??
12.do not lock core to spesific CPU, what the purpose that option, i can't understand it,
13. i just using Fahmon now, can u recommend some 3rd software that good for me (i have read the thread from this forum but still confuse to choose)
14. oh yeah i have get VPU recover, what the effect to my WU, if i get VR, i just restrat my client (i fear that if i continue fold after VR that can something wrong with my WU)
15.i see that the project has they limit (9999), if there are no space for new WU in the future, what the prospect of Folding@Home CMIIW
sorry if my question very long , i just want to know the basic, i have read all FAQ, but still confuse
thank for your attention, and i hope that ATI can get new spesific project (like 59xx for nvidia) that can boost my PPD

Re: need suggestion
1. 2 CPU clients and 1 GPU client is the simplest. SMP might be possible, but with the short deadlines, you would have to try it and see. Overclocking some would help.
2. That changes from time to time, you'll have to read some of the other threads that discuss it. It also depends on the number of shaders on that card, etc.
3. OC will increase product up to a point. OC as much as you want, as long as the system is stable. Run the StressCPU v2 tester from the 3rd Party Tools thread to verify stability.
4. Yes.
5. Didn't see a question there.
6. The client will download new fahcores as needed. You don't need to go looking for them.
7. Default is verbosity 3. Must people run verbosity 9 so they can see the most detail in the fahlog.txt file. The individual settings are not detailed anywhere as to what appears in the log or not at each level. See also the fah wiki (linked above) for mor details on what client switches do.
8. No. Not much benefit to CPU clients either. Most of the time it is not needed. Again, see the Wiki.
9. Not really, no. Some people just like to fold the newest workunits and help with beta testing.
10. Only states a preference for work units with a particular size of the upload file. It has no other affect.
11. Don't really need to change this unless you mix the CPU and GPU clients. CPU = idle , GPU = Low for best performance.
12. Don't need to use that. Leave it at the default setting.
13. Fahmon is the most popular tool at the moment. Other tools might be helpful, depends on what you want to use them for...
14. VPU can be caused by high temps, or overclocking the GPU too much, or just a bad WU. Don't worry about it unless it happens often.
15. 9999 is not a limit, just no need to use numbers higher than that. In six years, we are only in to the 6000s, so we have lots of room to grow.
