I've just learned that a friend's 8-year-old daughter was diagnosed at the age of 2 with Emery-Dreifuss Muscular Dystrophy, Type 2. Have done some research on the internet, and I can't make heads or tails of this horrible diagnosis vis-a-vis F@H, but it sure looks to me as though genetics and proteins are a major factor.
Here's a link to the summary of one article I found: http://brain.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/con ... 129/5/1260
And this: http://www.curehunter.com/public/keywor ... strophy.do
Would I be correct in thinking that the folding I've been doing over the last few months might be helping to find a cure? I realize that it might already be too late for this little girl. But just knowing that I might be helping to prevent or cure this disease in my own small way would give me great comfort, and I know it would help her parents to know this, too.
Can anyone truthfully tell me that what I'm hoping for might be the case?
Thanks.
