Will FAH work in corporate environments?

My company has always been a large contributor to good charitable causes. I want to propose FAH to the board but need to know if there are any negatives doing so. We have about 100 computers in the company and use software that is internet based as well as a simple data management program. I have to run the proposal to the IT department first before approching the board. I want to know if there are any risks involved and if FAH has been tested in a corporate environment?

Risks? Putting 100% load on the cpu's will mean you have to keep an eye on temperature but *normally* all pc's *should* be able to handle it.

Then, it might increase the network load as the clients use bandwidth for downloading and uploading work/core's.

I think if you propose this, someone from your it department would have to look at this, as well as if the network topografy will allow the clients acces to the stanford servers. Then, the workstations might be maintained with ghost images, and this will need consideration.

To answer if it's been tested in corporate environments, yes it has. Not by me though, but if you look around on the forums this has been asked before and answerd before.

Yes, many large corporations already donate to fah, and fah has an excellent safety record.

As mentioned, though not really a risk, running fah will tend to use 100 % of all CPU cycles not used by other programs. That can increase the electricity somewhat, increase cooling costs in the summer, but save on heating costs in the winter.

Thanks for the info. I ran it by the board and they are going to do a trial on 5 computers first for a month to make sure the program does not interfere with work activites. If things go well, many more computers are to follow. I think this is a fantastic concept and perhaps one day we can find cures.

One common concern is the fah would interfere with normal work related processing. Even though most explain that it won't, some businesses compromise by only running the client during non work hours using a task scheduler. That way you can guarantee it won't even interfere, regardless of their concerns.

In addition to some extra electricity, fah will also increase your bandwidth usage a very small amount. In the US, most businesses don't have a GB cap, but other parts of the world do. Be prepared to answer to that question as well.

And finally, when they do grant permission, politely ask for approval in writing. Your IT guy today might approve it, but 2 years from now, you might have a new IT guy (or gal), and s/he didn't give you approval. You don't want this to ever come back to bite you. People have been fired from good jobs over just such a simple misunderstanding. Having it in writing covers your backside.
