Update 5.03 to 6.2 and upload problems
I have been continuing to have up-load problems. I now have three WU which will not up-load. One is almost a year old, one 4 months and one 4 days. I haven't been able to find how to delete from queue. I would like to update program to 6.2 but I don't see how to do that and not lose previous work and points. Any help?
Thanks Jack

Re: Update 5.03 to 6.2 and upload problems
Start the client with the -delete xx flag. The xx being the queue slot that you want to delete.
The one that is a year old most likely went over the expiration date long ago. Same would be true for the 4 month old one, possibly.
Can you paste us a copy of the output from -queueinfo?

Re: Update 5.03 to 6.2 and upload problems
The two completed December 4th and 15th are most likely over the deadline, so you can delete those.
-delete 02
then again
-delete 03
Server 171.64.122.72 has been in reject mode since Thu Sep 25, so it need to be fixed before you will be able to upload that unit. Unless the collection server takes it first.

Re: Update 5.03 to 6.2 and upload problems
Thanks for the info on the server, you will note however, that the latest problem WU was completed on 9-22. Do you know when the server will be fixed? Also, where do I find the delete commands? I can't find anything in my program. I am not running the console version which seems to be the one with command abilities. Last question, How do I upgrade to 6.2 without losing my ID and work credits, do I just download the new program as you do with other updates?
Thanks
Jack

Could someone review above questions? I am stuck and can't find where to use commands. Or answers to other questions.Jack S wrote:Thanks for the info on the server, you will note however, that the latest problem WU was completed on 9-22. Do you know when the server will be fixed? Re: Update 5.03 to 6.2 and upload problems
I do not know when the server will be fixed.
To use commands, create a shortcut to the executable, right click the shortcut, go into its properties, and add the command into the "target" field, outside any quotes if there are any e.g. "C:\Users\John\FAH\2\Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe" -delete 02 . This works for both console and GUI versions.
To upgrade to 6.2 simply uninstall the old version, install the new one and configure it the same way. If you copy all the data files into the new area where the GUI client stores them, you won't even lsoe the local unit count, and even if you can't you will still keep all of your credits on the stats server so long as you contribute to exactly the same username (and ideally team).

Thanks for the info however, you are so far ahead of me. I have no idea where the "executable" is or how to make a short cut. And the data files, where are they and how do you copy them? Must you make a copy before you delete old program or what? Every time I get near this program I realize how little I know. I guess you get the idea I need someone to lead me by the hand. Any further help would be great.
Thanks
Jack

Re: Update 5.03 to 6.2 and upload problems
Jack,
When I had a similar issue a while back, I was told that both the 5.03 and the 6.20 version use the same cores (stored on your hard drive by the program), and therefore the points per day you are getting on 5.03 shouldn't change if you upgrade to 6.20. Also, the viewer on the 6.20 version isn't working properly so that would be of no use to you either. Therefore, if the 5.03 client is processing the work units correctly, then just keep using it.
Here's a reply (word for word) that I received on a similar query that I asked about a while back which elaborates on what I have just spoken about. Note that the reply below is based on the fact that I fold on a laptop, not a desktop, so your Points Per Day (PPD) will probably be higher than mine.
Pete.

Hope this helps a little.bruce wrote:If you're expecting 6.2x to be faster that 5.0x you're going to be disappointed. Both the 5.03 and the 6.20 clients use exactly the same FahCore to process the same assignments. They make full use of whatever hardware you provide, and unfortunately 90 PPD is probably about right for your hardware, depending on how many hours per day it folds and whether it goes into a power-saving mode.
If you like 5.03, there's no strong reason to upgrade. It will continue to process new assignments for many years without any changes.
Pete.

Re: Update 5.03 to 6.2 and upload problems
Firstly, no problem It's another name for the program file... and is in C:\Program Files\Folding@home or something similar.Jack S wrote:To: John Naylor

I have no idea where the "executable" is
Click on the program file (to select it without opening it), then right click the file and click "create shortcut" on the menu that appears, which should then place a shortcut in the same folder as the program file.or how to make a short cut.
C:\Program Files\Folding@home or similar, the same folder as where the executable is. To copy them select these filesAnd the data files, where are they and how do you copy them?
- queue.dat
- client.cfg
- the entire "work" folder
You must copy the files/folders I mentioned above before you uninstall the program, yes.Must you make a copy before you delete old program or what?
Hope that was what you were looking for. If you need any more help just askI guess you get the idea I need someone to lead me by the hand. Any further help would be great.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I can figure this out. It does seem the best just to leave things as they are for now even if I do have several WU that won't upload or go away.
Thanks again,
Jack
