Can slow CPUs make a difference?

Post by Minto »

I have my ps3, 2 desktops and a laptop all with 3.0+GHZ CPUs running F@H, but I'm wondering should I use it with my little 900mhz CPU ? or even my 1.6ghz CPU? Would the slow processors make a difference,...enough of a difference to actually use them?

Almost every CPU makes a difference.... as long as they can complete their WUs. Your 900Mhz CPU must use the uniprocessor, but it should be able to complete its WUs (i think the cut-off is about 400mhz for 24/7 folding to complete WUs).

If you think about it, there're are 209,951 active processor... so even if i have a 6ghz CPU it's only one processor out of 209,951... so of course every little bit counts =)

The last I read about lowest that will finish before preferred deadlines was a Pentium 3 @ 550MHz. Your 900MHz and 1.6GHz CPUs are welcome to contribute, definitely :D Although for the 900MHz one it should run for a large part of the day to ensure it completes units in time.

And more importantly: Welcome to the forums!

Every little bit helps.
For example, i run 1.2 Conroe chips, while not as fast as the "big"
boyz they hold their own.
