Can't get a new work unit

Post by m_vokhm »

For about 3 days, my F@H client can't connect to work servers to receive a new work unit.
The log is filled with records like the following :
=======
07:45:03:WU00:FS00:Connecting to assign1.foldingathome.org:80
07:45:04:WU00:FS00:Assigned to work server 129.32.209.202

07:45:05:WU00:FS00:Connecting to 129.32.209.202:8080
07:45:26:WARNING:WU00:FS00:WorkServer connection failed on port 8080 trying 80
07:45:26:WU00:FS00:Connecting to 129.32.209.202:80

=======
work servers IPs vary: 129.32.209.202 and 129.32.209.204.
What can be the matter? Is it something wrong at my side?
My computer and the internet connection seem to be all right, I don't see any other unusual signs.

I am also having an issue:

17:42:00:WU04:FS04:Downloading core from http://cores.foldingathome.org/lin/64bi ... ore_00.fah
17:42:00:WU04:FS04:Connecting to cores.foldingathome.org:80
17:42:01:ERROR:WU04:FS04:Exception: Failed reading core package header.

When I browse to this I am getting a 404 error too (where as if i got ot https://cores.foldingathome.org/lin/64bit/22-0.0.20/ I get a 403 error.)

Yours is a different problem, you can download a WU, just not the folding core designated by the WS and the WU.

There are already 3 places where this core download problem hs been posted. I will be merging the two other topics, resolution to the problem and how to remove the WU are going to be posted there.

Please see this topic - viewtopic.php?t=38104. It appears the IT department at Temple University has set its firewall to deny access to IP addresses on some blocklist. Due to high spam counts and DOS attacks from some sites in Russia, it is possible your IP is in a range that has been blocked.

I have not received confirmation of this, but I can attest to the volume of spam and other invalid connections I see here on the forum. You may be able to connect through a VPN, but I am seeing heavy abuse of VPN connections provided through some firms by spammers as well.

Yes, it seems to be true. Either my IP is blacklisted or our russian authorities are blocking access to the work servers (less probably). Now I've configured my computer to route the connection via a VPN and everything works fine now.

Having a similar problem; but I haven't been able to get a GPU WU for almost 24 hours now. Latest log:

Similar in that you are not getting a WU, but for a different reason and with a totally different message in the log file. The other problems reported were due to not being able to make a network connection to specific servers, your client is connecting but not finding any suitable work available.

That is

07:45:47:ERROR:WU00:FS00:Exception: Failed to connect to 129.32.209.202:80:

vs.

02:19:27:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from 'assign1.foldingathome.org:80': No WUs available for this configuration

Th problem comes from the entries for AMD GPUs being updated over the last 24-36 hours. That has changed the groups the GPUs are part of and they still need to update the servers to match. The current entry for your GPU is as follows:

Code: Select all

 0x1002:0x67ff:1:3:Baffin [RX 550 640SP/RX 560/560X]
Your GPU has moved from species 5 to species 3. As species 5 it would have occasionally been assigned too large WUs, once the servers get updated there should be assignments more consistent in size. It ay take a few days to get everything propagated. In the meantime to get the updated GPUs.txt file just delete it and restart your folding client or the machine it is running on.

Appreciate the quick reply. Updated the GPUs.txt file, now I'll just wait it out. :)

Thanks again!

Hi, I have been folding a short time, had it going on a Pine64 board and a Dell Laptop. Then I added another Pine and all three were chugging away just fine. I dedicated them to folding for cancer. I recently a few days ago added another RPi to the group and it would not get any assignments, the others were working but it did not. I uninstalled F@H and reinstalled thinking there was a problem, I am running all of them on DietPi.
anyway, I found this thread, and looking at my logs my connection is being refused. I am coming from an IP in the US, so I hope it isn't being blocked. IP is 143.59.86.xxx under WideOpenWest (WOW) as my internet provider.
Here's what my logs say:

Code: Select all

Oct 27 22:51:04 Pine64-1GB FAHClient[3321]: WARNING:WU00:FS00:Failed to get assignment from 'assign1.foldingathome.org:80': Failed to connect to assign1.foldingathome.org:80: Connection refused

Oct 27 22:51:04 Pine64-1GB FAHClient[3321]: ERROR:WU00:FS00:Exception: Could not get an assignment
Any idea why i'm being refused? Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

also edit to add that all systems are now not getting WUs at all after finishing what they had started last.

I have the same issue with my AMD Radeon Pro WX-2100, for what is now 2-3 days. But if the mentioned "reranking" process means I won't be assigned a job that my GPU cannot possibly do by deadline (which is a waste of time, effort, and energy for us and F@H), I shall be patient. CPU's still humming along at flank speed.

Thursday Nov 3 update: Is there progress on the reranking?

This is a different issue ...

Something is blocking your connection to the assignment servers ... Can you access http://assign1.foldingathome.org or http://assign2.foldingathome.org from a browser on the same machine ?

I have also been having trouble getting WU's for my Ryzen 3's (3200G/Picasso Core) iGPU for the past week or so. Is there going to be a classification downgrade for this iGPU?

Most of the low end GPUs moved to species 3 or 4. Once the servers are updated to reflect that change for the smaller projects, you should start receiving WUs again. The new categories are mostly organized by processing power.
