Shutting down machine loses work unit?

Post by Peter_Hucker »

Almost every time I (cleanly) shut down a machine, when I restart it only 10 minutes later the half done work unit is gone. Why is this?

With Windows its shutdown does not properly wait until all folding client processes exit. So it can corrupt the work files and cause it to be dumped. The only consistent way to get around this is to pause folding, then start the shutdown a bit after that. The file corruption may not happen even time, it depends exactly where processing is at and how long the folding core takes to exit.

There can be other causes, only way to determine is from looking at the logs from just before the shutdown and then after the restart.
