Failed reading core package header - CPU core A8

Post by AdrianThePirate »

Mod note: merged two new posts with same error - j

Hey all, been trying to get F@A set up on my new system and the GPU folding works fine, but the CPU keeps running into errors after completing a WU download. I have also tried to config the CPU to 16 core, as well as 22 core (as provided log is for). The log looks the same for both 16 and 22.

I've also updated the chipset drivers, tried rebooting, and deleting previous WU download for CPU and I'm now at a loss for what else to do to fix this. The errors are primarily Unkown exception or 0xc0000005: Exception access violation.

Hope some of you have can help me out :)

can't load core: Failed reading core package header

Post by tvmwd6 »

Hello,

I'm trying to get started with folding but I can't seem to get any machine to download a core, getting the error: Failed reading core package header
I can follow the link and download the core manually in the browser, but FAHClient cannot, apparently due to the headers somehow.

This issue persists across 3 machines on 2 separate networks, all of which allow traffic on port 80/8080 so I don't know what the problem could be.

Code: Select all

15:50:59:Trying to access database...
15:50:59:Successfully acquired database lock
15:50:59:FS00:Initialized folding slot 00: cpu:7
15:50:59:WU00:FS00:Downloading core from http://cores.foldingathome.org/lin/64bit-avx-256/a8-0.0.12/Core_a8.fah
15:50:59:WU00:FS00:Connecting to cores.foldingathome.org:80
15:51:00:ERROR:WU00:FS00:Exception: Failed reading core package header.
The last 3 lines then repeat every minute or so until the program is stopped.

I would appreciate any help you can give.

EDIT: This was supposed to be a new post, I don't know what happened here...

I posted the same error earlier, in another part of the forums. Another person replied that they had the same error in Linux today (I'm on Windows 10), so it seems to be server related, although it is possible to download the cores in a browser.

Once you download the core where do you put it? My folder structure isn't even generated yet.

The download needs to be handled by the client to unpack it and put the components in the correct place. Downloading in a browser just helps to confirm if the download source is taking connections and allowing downloads at all.

I have come across a message elsewhere that the developer had added a test version of the core and inadvertently also reloaded a bad version. That should have been fixed by now. If your client is still trying to download the bad version, it may take restarting your machine to switch to a good one.

My client is still getting a bad core, even after several reboots and purges.

I don't like deleting work units, but I've been trying to get a good copy of core 22 0.0.13 for about 9 or 10 hours, so am deleting wu in hopes of getting one that uses a different version. Only getting work for 0.0.13.

Good to know it's not my setup that faulty though, hopefully it'll be fixed overnight. I just picked a bad day to downgrade from Windows 11 :)

Currently that is the only core in play - the 0.0.16 was in use for p13456/7 but none of those wus are around as far as I am aware ... If a dev has to resolve it it may take a while for the servers to update and start pushing out the correct core - fingers crossed it sorts itself by the morrow :)

You appear to have two issues there.
1). "No WUs available for this configuration" - The work units are configured by the scientists to run on different hardware whether it be processor, graphics card or something else. Basically there aren't any work units configured to run on your slot 01 (probably graphics card).
2). "Downloading core from http://cores.foldingathome.org/win/64bi ... ore_22.fah" - this is a problem that was identified a few hours ago, whether it's the server or the payload I don't know but it likely won't be fixed until next week when the developers return from the weekend. If you have the cores already downloaded to another machine I suggest copying them across.

Woohoo! Just seen that the core finally successfully downloaded about 45 minutes ago. I noticed it after I went to the kitchen, and noticed the sitting room is again warmer than the rest of the house :)

Yes you are right. cores are now working but my gpu is not used. can you tell me how I fix this ? I have 2 gpus . 1) nvidia gtx 1660 max Q and 2) is onboard intel grafik, they are also showen right in the webcontrol but they are not used . I would be very happy if you could tell me how i can fix this :)

Currently no projects using the Intel igpus that I am aware of - and you need to have a flag set to allow them to fold ... as to the gtx1660 what does the log show? ... you aren't folding on light by any chance as this stops gpu slots
