FahCore_22.exe clRetainDevice could not be loacted

Hey I have Fah running on my main PC and everything works great. However last night I put two older GPUs into my old PC and it doesnt see one of the GPUs (GeForce 8400 gs) and the other (Quadro 2000) it never starts and keeps giving an error message that says:

FahCore_22.exe - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point clRetainDevice could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\users.....\22-0.0.11\Core_22.fah\FahCore_22.exe

Could it simply be there is nothing for those two to do at thats why im getting the error?

Welcome to the folding support forum.

The GeForce 8400 GS is too old to use for folding, it is based on a Tesla GPU chip and those have not been supported for several years.

The Quadro 2000 potentially could fold, it is based on a Fermi chip and not the lowest end one. But it might not be enough to meet deadlines. Since the error is reported in running Core_22, your system was given a WU to process, the failure is in the software installation, most likely the drivers.

Could you provide more information about the system this is installed in? Most of the information would be shown by posting the first 100-200 lines of your log file, directions for Windows are located in this topic - viewtopic.php?p=327412&f=24#p327412

I have looked a bit further, and suspect I have the reason for the error. The Quadro 2000 is based on the GF106 Fermi chip. It supports OpenCL 1.1, however the actual requirement for folding is OpenCL 1.2. Older projects could still run, the Fermi cards supported the necessary OpenCL instructions. However more recent projects have been using newer features of the code and those have involved instructions specific to OpenCL 1.2.

Further complicating things is that the Fermi chips came in two main versions. They are GF10n and GF11n. The GF11n chips support more of the instructions involved in the transition from OpenCL 1.1 to 1.2, but not all of the version 1.2 instructions. So for OpenCL processing the F@h project is in the process of changing which of these will be used for current projects as it is not always certain which will successfully work.

A future version of Core_22 may be released that uses nVidia's CUDA language set instead of OpenCL. The older Fermi cards may return to usefulness, but that will depend on which revision level of CUDA ends up being supported as a minimum. In the case of your Guadro 2000, it supports CUDA 2.1.
