screens not going to sleep

Post by williamdrescher »

Win10
I have 3 screens. When I leave the machine I expect the screens to go to low power as they did before I installed BOINC and Folding@home.
When I return all 3 screens are on, but blank.
Touching a key results in all showing white, then the content comes back.
By low power, I want the screen's power switch to change from green to amber.

Welcome to the F@H Forum williamdrescher,

I haven't used BOINC on a desktop so can't speak for the software configuration.

When it comes to F@H, you can have the screens automatically turn off after X time and the CPU/GPU will continue to fold. Here are some ways you can do it on Windows 10: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/226 ... -10-a.html

Maybe a screensaver is configured in Windows? Turn it off and just configure monitor sleep timeout.

I do not have a screensaver configured and my power plan is set to turn off the displays after 15 min - they used to do this before I installed F@H.
Any other ideas ?

Just to clarify, you stated this:
williamdrescher wrote:...When I leave the machine I expect the screens to go to low power as they did before I installed BOINC and Folding@home...
But followed up with this:
williamdrescher wrote:...my power plan is set to turn off the displays after 15 min - they used to do this before I installed F@H...
So, the issue is that while we can try to help you out with F@H, we can't help you out for BOINC as that's a different application. Have you uninstalled BOINC and only left F@H on your system? With only F@H installed, are you still having the issue where the monitor does not turn off? Have you double checked the monitor power settings?

Power button? or is that too much energy expenditure?

I thought I had to install BOINC to get to FH.
Pushing the power buttons is not too much energy, forgetting to push the power buttons is too much waste.

BOINC and FAH are two totally separate distributed computing platforms so you don't need BOINC installed to be able to install/run FAH or vice versa

I removed BOINC and that problem went away. Thanks for the suggestion.
Now the 2 aux screens do power down but the main screen has a greyed out screen saver.
Where would I go to turn that off?

Correction: when the main screen is greyed it is the Web Control that is displayed under the grey.

Correction: "Web Control is sleeping," but it prevents the screen from powering down.

Have you tried to close Web Control and see what happens? Do note that you do not have to leave Web Control open to fold so can be safely closed/reopened as and when needed.
