I need to change computers

Hello,

I was eager to participate in research to stop some of the diseases and illnesses that affect us as a society today, and downloaded the client onto my work computer. My work computer now has an 18 hour work order running, which is great, accept I need to use the computer for work things.... So, how do I....

1. Stop new work orders from coming in on this computer so I can change over to a different computer?
2. Handle the current work order? Can I go ahead and switch over to the new computer right now, or do I need to wait until this current work order is finished before doing so?

Also..
If I need to wait out this work order, can I turn down the folding power to light so that I can utilize my work computer for others things in the mean time?

If you set the folding to Finish, the client will finish any current WUs and then stop and not download another.

As for setting up on a different computer, go ahead and do so. You can use the same username and passkey, and if on a team, the same team when setting it up. Any work it gets assigned is independent from another computer setup.

Depending on whether your computer is configured to fold on your CPU or on a GPU, (or both) there are two issues here. If you accept work for your GPU, it's possible that you will notice screen-lag if you're using your computer and folding is using your GPU at the same time. If you're folding on your CPU, you should be able to use your computer while FAH uses your CPU because the use of the CPU is assigned a very low priority in your operating system. Whatever non-FAH things you are doing will be processed first and FAH will grab the UNUSED computer cycles for its calculation while it waits for you to move the mouse or type something.

If you already have a passkey on the first computer then you should use that same passkey on the new computer. Although recommended, you don't need to finish the work units on your first computer. They will be redistributed to another folder once they expire.

Yes, someone else will get the work unit once it expires. You won't get any points for it, though.

If you have a need to then do so … The 50% of work will be "lost" but the WU will be reissued as/when the WU timeout is reached … Whilst normally the advice might be to mark the slot as "finish" and let it complete the WU and pause, if you are having issues that are impacting your work/other stuff on the machine in question don't panic about doing this - just let the WU be reissued as/when.
