Why is my client working on Project 14183. I thought new cli

Post by FuUtAmAaSa »

I set my client program to any disease as per the instructions.

I had hoped I would be able to assist with locating the true cure to this new Covid-19 virus.
I have been a Seti @ home user since 1999 and when I realised that the home user portion
was coming to an end and this new virus came up I wanted to assist further.

Thank you for the opportunity by the way.

Keep up the good work of keeping ANY one involved with helping to process this information.

If COVID-19 work is available, it is given the highest priority, so will be assigned first.
If so many people choose to fold that the researchers run out of COVID-19 work for a moment, there is lower priority work that needs done.

Whats the worst that could happen? You would inadvertently help to cure some form of cancer.

Ok thank you. I see your point. LOL. The bloody thing is telling me what I am working on will take 20.95 days to crunch. But I am also still running seti @ home at the same time.

If I was able to manually download a years worth of work on both computers and still crunch the numbers while they go into hibernation I would.

I took about 15 years " vacation " from computers and restarted every thing up almost over night in the middle of January this year.

I was flabbergasted to find out Seti was ending the home user portion this March. So I am at least grateful to find I can actually help or planet also with Folding @ Home.

I am not going to stop the work my computer is currently working on. I do not know if they have it set up where if someone is given a problem, that puts a hold on the problem till it is finalised by that user and will keep it in limbo or if there is no work reported for a certain amount of time.
Or if the same problem is protioned up between users and they are only working on a part of the whole.

My opinion so far is that it is AWESOME that I can help in any way at all. And if it takes me having some power at the house and a couple of computers to help I will gladly do so.

I even have the PI app on my android phone and on my wifes phone.

I still use a flip phone for actual communication, but that is another story.

Thank you again for your reply.

P.S.

You should probably run one or the other, it would be more efficient.

If Seti can be set to use part of the resources, you can also set F@h to use only part of the resources. That would allow them to coexist better if you still want to run both.

In addition, until the WU has reached a percent or two of completion, the estimates given by the client can be way off, usually to the long side of the actual time needed.
