FahCore_a7 running but unable to connect to f@h client

Post by rpk »

I've installed v7.5.1 on MacOS Sierra. Right after finishing the installer package the

Code: Select all

FahCore_a7
process started. But

Code: Select all

client.foldingathome.org
is unable to connect to the client.

Code: Select all

fahclient --configure
created a

Code: Select all

config.xml
but there is no clue where to place the config. neither in its output nor in the documentation. if i try

Code: Select all

fahclient start
i get:

Code: Select all

18:05:27:ERROR:Exception: Failed to open 'start': Failed to open 'start': No such file or directory: No such file or directory
in the usual places there is no sign of a config folder for folding. e.g.

Code: Select all

~/
contains anything like a

Code: Select all

fahclient
folder or alike. :/ and the documentation of the folding homepage is rather sparse. any clues how to get the client started and tame the folding client which brings my fan spinning non stop? thank you.

Welcome to the folding support forum.

The installer places files for the configuration as well as logs, work files and the downloaded folding cores in /Library/Application Support/FAHClient. It should open the Web Control in a browser after the install to allow configuration.

One problem I have noticed, under recent updates to Safari the Web Control will not connect using the supplied URL. Changing the https in the URL to http has worked for me. You should also be able to do the setup using the FAHControl app provided in the F@h folder installed in Applications. Either can be used to Pause folding.

Folding is CPU intensive. You did not mention whether you were installing on a desktop or a laptop. The default on a desktop is to start up in Medium which uses all but one of the available CPU cores/threads. Laptops start on Light which uses half. These can be adjusted manually using FAHControl's Configure to any number between 1 and the number of threads your CPU supports.

Hope this helps you get things under control, if you have some specific things you want to setup, ask here and we will try to help get you there.
