Uploads Timing Out/Error

Post by KWSN_Sir_Frank »

i have the results of two work units re-trying their uploads (13 times so far)...
WUs are 10624 (0,2,7) and 10642 (0,338,1)...
both are going to 128.252.203.2:8080...
when the first one was trying alone, it made it to aprox 83% or 84%...
now that both are trying at the same time, they fail at 39% to 43%...
they seem to time out at aprox 16 min...

can anything be done to allow more time to upload ???

Welcome to the folding support forum.

Could you post your log file as described in this topic - viewtopic.php?f=61&t=26036. The first 100 or so lines that show your system information and configuration plus a section showing the upload attempts would help determine what is happening. It would also show the size of the file being uploaded, and give us an idea of how fast your upload speed is. 15 minutes is the normal upload timeout value on the work servers, usually it is not increased except for exceptionally large results files.

The project numbers you listed do not appear to be active, did you write down the correct numbers?

How fast can your DSL connection send data ?

I suspect that you might be hitting the connection timeout if your connection is too slow ...

hello toTOW

just ran a speed test:
download speed: 0.95 mbps
upload speed: 0.22 mbps

fiber is coming soon, but they are still in the digging/boring stage at the moment...

Is that your typical speed? Rebooting the modem may get you a higher connection rate. Happens to me all the time.

I sincerely sympathize ... :?

Uploading 28 MB with your upload speed would require a minimum of 17 minutes ... I don't know how this server is set up, but you're definitely hitting the connection timeout (I don't know how it is set on this server, but it is usually something between 15 and 30 minutes) :(

Is there any way to request an increase in the time-out limit ???
or are these two work units (about 5000 points total) just going to be flushed down the pipes ???
and i wonder how many other folks have run into this same problem and not realized what was happening ???

(I have stopped the job so as to not hit the re-try limit...)

any help will be really appreciated...

thanks in advance

toTOW: thank you for forwarding the details of the problem to the folks who can fix it...

mmonnin: if you are thinking (as i am) of sending the results in two or four sections,
i think it would be good, but the division and re-assembly may be a can of worms...
if the division/re-assembly is not difficult, it would solve the problem...

raising the time-out limit AND sending the results one-at-a-time should also solve the problem...

Just small WUs. max-packet-size = small.

That option is currently obsolete for CPU WU's, it mostly applied to the older end of life Core_78 projects. Currently the only CPU size distinction is for the large WU's using the bigadv setting for 24+ core Linux machines.
