Folding deadline

Ok so is there a better place than on new donors to post about the deadlines that seem unreasonable?

I have had a few folding projects that are saying will take 23 hours and I have a deadline of 25 hours to get it done in (just throwing numbers out there). So unless I was a 24hour/7days all the time running computer there is no way I can ever get these completed. So it is wasting the folding slot and the entire time my computer runs it and then all the info will get dumped. It seems pointless. Is there a way for me to reject these projects? Because I honestly am getting tired of the waste that just yesterday and today I am having that two in a row that will not get completed. I ss the projects and I think log on the first one but for sure did on this new one.

My GPU is also failing which is not as much of a issue as I was having graphic lagging issues when it runs. I am unsure if I am going to make sense but I recall reading somewhere that some of the folding is failure due to equipment and some are due to the project/fold not having a valid folding ability and both have to be rerun to ensure the cause. Is there a way to be set up as a rechecker for that. Seeing I shut down once to twice a day the fold will get restarted and can see if the failure is not computer related but the fold itself. If I find it keeps failing to start up after three times I could reject the fold, instead of waiting for the expire time, when told how and throw it back as not equipment seeing I was folding on the GPU without issues just within the last couple weeks.

I saw in the log Client died.... I have not fiddled with the computer system in anyway since it was bought so I dont see how this could be the cause. I do ask the computer to run a lot and gets testy with me at times but nothing outrageous and it should be able to handle it.

This happens when, simply enough, the client dies. The core is still running, and can't find the client, so it shuts down. This is usually related to overclocking and/or overly aggressive memory timings. Back down on these and this error should vanish.

Bad platformId size error typically means you need to install the latest drivers from AMD for your GPU.

(First, A little review)
When your software was installed, it was set up to run two different WUs: one on your GPU with the assistance of one of your CPUs and another on the remaining three CPUs. Once you update your GPU drivers, we can look at how you're doing with that type of assignment.

The log above shows your 3 CPUs are running Project: 9752 (Run 4128, Clone 0, Gen 291). There are a few places in that log where 10% of the WU was completed successfully in about 1.5 hours, which means you can complete that WU in about 15 hours of continuous folding. The preferred deadline for p9752 is 0.5 days and the final deadline is 1.0 days. I agree that the deadlines are too short for that project.

I'll notify the project owner.

I expect that you will not encounter this problem if your CPUs are assigned work from other projects. That server is currently down, so at least for a while you shouldn't be assigned that project again. Let us know how the other CPU projects work out for you.

During Beta testing of this CPU project, 9752, I was able to successfully complete WU's using a MacBook with a 2.4 GHz T8300 Core 2 Duo processor. But it was just within the preferred deadline. So the CPU minimum was raised to 3 cores.

Your AMD A8-4500M CPU t 1.9 GHz is based on the Piledriver architecture, so only has 2 FPU's for the 4 'cores'. You may not see significant improvement in processing time using 3 cores compared to 2, and if you set your CPU slot to 2 you will not get Project 9752 assigned. If the project does get its deadlines or core minimum changed, you can go back to 3 cores if you want.

Tough to know for sure by the log posted. Would like to see an updated driver and a few completed frames before making that determination. And since we don't advertise FAH on the Poem forum, please reciprocate.

Ok will work on updating my drivers for the GPU like to have the husband agree with any changes so we both are at fault for any issues (like confirming download sites are valid and correct program ect)..SMILES.

So there is not send back reject button to stop a fold that will not complete in time other than just waiting till it expires? Not that I want to reject any project but like now
My computer has 1 hours 32 mins to complete this work unit. 9752 (1575, 0, 497) 10 hours 53 mins Work Unit (ETA) .... so for sure this is not finishing in time.
So I am just sitting here waiting till it ends and will see all that wasted...sniffles.

I am limited in my computer knowledge so not sure why the computer runs more effectively with the CPUs at some points then at other times slows down. I am not gaming but do watch videos and fb however I would think that would effect the GPU more than anything.

I have only had a few Folding projects have deadline issues so unless I continue to get this one over and over again I will leave the CPU at 3 because I am unsure if I will have issues making the change to 2 without screwing something up. Between sicknesses over and over again and watching Grandkids daily my mind has not been sharp and I am avoiding brain power stuff.

Changing CPU:3 to CPU:2 will not screw things up if you use FAHControl.

A button to discard WUs was intentionally not designed into the Client, fearing that too many people would dump perfectly good WUs just because they appeared to produce lower PPD.

Watching videos tends to complete with GPU folding. GPU folding tends to slow down but only while the video is playing. Both the Video and screen updates (particularly in Windows) tend to slow down when the GPU is folding. Whether that's significant or not depends on what's in your system and how much time is spent with the competition continues.

I have a system that was corrupted by Windows Update. I was busy enough that I didn't get around to fixing it immediately. After I finally fixed it, I had a GPU WU that could not be completed before the Preferred Deadline -- so I won't be earning bonus points -- but it can be finished by the Final Deadline so it may end up being completed by two different people.

I guess I wont have to worry about fiddling with the CPU change for a bit because the folding job I just got has my ETA 13 days with 28 days to get it done so it will be running for awhile on this one. So when I do go about changing the CPU from 3 to 2 do I have to worry about affecting my current folding job? I have tried that stop folding when done button option but it does not fold the current project then when that is done STOP before assigning me another. I just go from folding one to being assigned a new one right away so it just seems like a pointless button -_- . Is there a place for me to tell if the current fold is requiring 3 CPU to run? If I could get it to not reassign right away I would do the change at the end of this fold before the next project otherwise.

I have had just a few issues when my GPU was folding that I learned to pause the GPU for that hour as needed thanks to you all telling me how to on the FAHControl. Thank you. Still got the fold done in time because I balanced out the use and didnt have to worry about my CPU fold running out of time due to a total folding pause. Will do that update to fix my bad platform error though.
