Folding on GTX 880m, Miniscule (4000) PPD?

Post by Azathoth321 »

I have my laptop (Excellent cooling, cool ambient temperature, 65C peak) folding on its GTX 880m, which is slightly faster than a GTX 760. But I seem to only be getting ~4000 PPD?
Is this correct? Or is there a known issue with mobile chipsets?

Mobile chipsets are optimized to minimize battery power usage rather than to maximize performance.

The laptop is running off an Outlet, and the power draw is the same as if I was running a demanding game. (Shadow of Mordor) In which I get higher performance on than if I ran the game on my desktop GTX 750Ti.

---Slower desktop 750Ti -> 24K PPD
---Faster mobile 880m -> 4k PPD, 1/6th.

---Being fully utilized, as indicated by same power draw on a Kill-a-Watt reader.

In fact the GTX 880M should be more powerful than a GTX 760. But I don´t know how long it can work at 100%.

Which F@H project using which Geforce driver version do you compare with the GTX 750 Ti?

Both are doing Project 9201, and on Driver 344.60.

Are you using a passkey?

Have you left 1 or 2 cpu threads available to feed the GPU?

Is your power setting at maximum or high performance with sleep and hibernation both turned off including for the display?

Can you show us your log including the System Info, Config and a few consecutive folding frames?

No Passkey.
Has access to 4 cores (8 Threads) at 3.5Ghz each.
Maximum performance, (Constant 3.5Ghz clock CPU, GPU at 1000Mhz)

Without a few frames we can't calculate the TPF so it's difficult to determine if 4K PPD is a correct estimate. I know that the TPF on my 750ti is ~4min28sec so if you can give us the actual TPF from the log or post a part of the log that shows a few frames on the 880m then we will be better equipped to compare and perhaps make more suggestions.

Do you have a passkey on the 750Ti system? That would account for the difference. If you are using the same user name, you can use the same passkey.

My GTX 750Ti is doing ~4:30 TPF
GTX 880m is displaying 26:30 for each frame.

Just benchmarked my GTX 880m in Firestrike, 5600 Points. (Stock 750Ti scores 4000)

So, my GTX 880m is running properly, utilizing more power than my GTX 750Ti can, but is taking over 6x longer per frame.
