I am not amongst those who believe that MacOSX.9.n Mavericks is the best Mac OS yet. Indeed, I find it beset with irritations, of which the two most irritating are its inability to multi-task which is evidenced by everything freezing for up to ten seconds whenever switching tasks and the fact that Time Machine is broken over a wifi network.

And yes, I have reinstalled Mavericks, run TechTool Pro and also a couple of other cleaning and monitoring utilities - to no effect.

But I digress.

I have also found that my unscientific "average" F@Hppd has reduced from over 10,000 under Snow Leopard to around 6,000 under Mavericks.

To the best of my knowledge all settings are the same and I have v7.3.6 Power on Full.

Am I alone in this highly unscientific observation?

Can't you re-install to Snow Leopard?

The online updates still work without forcing you to "upgrade" to Mavericks.

I decided to give Mavericks a miss, so I've got 2 machines on Mountain Lion and 2 on Snow leopard, and they're likely to stay that way.

If you have access to some old backups, maybe you can collect a few Projects and their TPF/PPD from the Snow Leopard System and compare it to the Mavericks system? If you can't, you can still collect few Projects with their TPF/PPD and post it here along with the system specifications. That way, donor with similar hardware can comment if it is within the normal range or not.

I could, but I really need the syncing ability of iCloud which isn't available under Snow Leopard (mainly iCal/Calendar).

My ISP, a Mac only provider! has regressed from Mavericks to Mountain Lion which, I think. Speaks volumes! No wonder Mavericks was free, I don't think it was ready to be let loose!

I do have Snow Leopard on an external drive as My old, yet serviceable, version of MS-OfficeX no longer works under Mavericks and I have a complex spreadsheet which just won't convert properly in Numbers.


Panther, I doubt that there is any record of Snow Leopard Folding and, as Time Machine is broken I can't restore any old logs, but I shall harvest some mavericks data and post back in due course - I'm not near my iMac for a while so can't do it now.

I upgraded to Mavericks from Lion as that was supposed to fix some issues I was having with EyeTV. It seems to have helped. It has partially broken time machine. The previously regular backups are now spotty, with some failing, although a manual start always seems to work.

I can't speak to it's ability with FAH though. The load of trying to watch TV and fold at the same time was causing the fan to run annoyingly loudly. For the sake of domestic bliss something had to give. Shame, because the Mac was my best folding machine.
