I’m having a problem with my WU for project 8584. I’m a relatively new folder. I have completed my first 10 projects, all before timeout. My computer cannot possibly finish this current project on time. I was given about 8 ½ days to complete it. The ETA is about 10 days. This estimate is based on overnight running time—it always takes longer than the initial estimate as I use my computer during the day. I have never had a problem before finishing a project ahead of timeout—I just run my PC overnight with nothing else running, and together with my available daytime computing for F@H, the projects get done on time.
(I also did my own calculation based on how long it took to complete a frame overnight, and even if I ran my PC in “overnight mode” for 8 ½ days, I could not complete this WU.)
After reading old messages here for advice, I decided to try deleting the WU file. (This file is not hard to find, as the path is given in the log.) As soon as I restart F@H, the project is immediately downloaded again from the server, and resumes folding where it had left off.
Is there any way to get rid of this WU? I just want to help the project and it's my understanding that if projects are not completed by timeout, then I'm really not helping much.
Nicola
I’m running F@H version 7.3.6 and here is some info from my Log:

Re: Can't complete WU for project 8584 before timeout
I think you've probably run into the same issue that's common to many others who are posting over the past week or so. If you've read the FAH blog, you'll learn that FAH moved most of it's servers a week ago. Getting all of the servers back on-line has been (and continues to be) a challenge. With fewer choices of projects, the servers have been digging deeper to find something that might not be as optimized for your hardware as Stanford would like, and while a T6570 may be able to complete P8584 before timeout when running 24x7, it probably can't when running only at night. It would be preferable to assign you projects commensurate with slower computers (with longer deadlines or less processing) but if those projects are off-line or are currently already being worked on, there may have been no alternatives.
FAH is designed to reassign a "lost" WU to the same person who is already working on it which explains why you can't get rid of it easily. When is that WU due to timeout?
This situation will improve as more servers (and more projects) are brought back on-line.

Re: Can't complete WU for project 8584 before timeout
So there's no way to get a new WU?
Timeout is 9/8 at about 1:30.
Expiration is 9/13 at 11:10.
Do I get a new project at the expiration date? I stopped folding on this project, because I did not think there was any point folding if I knew I couldn't get the project done on time.

Re: Can't complete WU for project 8584 before timeout
Uninstall FAH, including data. (Make a backup copy of config.xml first since you're going to want to retain your user name/team/passkey and anything special that you did during setup.) The current WU will be discarded along with the identifiers associated with that particular installation. The first time it connects to the internet it will be treated as an installation on a new machine.
I can't promise whether you'll get another WU from project like 85xx or not but at least you'll be starting from zero with a new expiration date plus your current knowledge.

Re: Can't complete WU for project 8584 before timeout
Thanks! That worked. I did get a new WU (project 9000) that I can easily complete ahead of timeout. Nicola
