Hi there,
I upgraded from V6 to V7.3.6 a few days ago. Both V6 and V7 were running, the time for v6 to finish its WU (by the way, the -oneunit option did not work, it downloaded a new unit after finishing this one although I restarted the service (and not the computer)). I then stopped the service and launched v6 with -configonly option to remove it from services. Restarted the computer and noticed v7 FAHcontrol (web and expert) was not able to connect with FAHclient. Short after installing v7, I tried to connect to the client from another computer and as it didn't work, I changed some parameters in the "Configure" menu : Remote Access Tab : IP Address Restriction : Allow 192.168.1.1/24.
Deny was left to 0/0. Nothing else was changed. It didn't solve the problem and I didn't investigate further.
Now, the remote FAHcontrol shows the client as Online but shows it as Updating while selected and the local FAHcontrol cycles between Connecting and some short flashing text I can't read. The client runs 1 core on "Not Idle" (process Explorer says 12.5%) and 8 cores (or so) + GPU on Idle (based on power consumption). The tray icon shows "Full" and the FAHcontrol slider shows "Off" and is grayed out.
De-installing re-installing v7 didn't change a thing.
Any suggestion ?
Thanks,
Etienne

Welcome to the forum Etienne_74.
The -oneunit flag and running as a service are counterintuitive. -oneunit says stop after WU is done, and the service install says restart fah when/if the program stops. Running v6 from a command line with the -oneunit flag was the correct fix for that.
Change back to these settings and see if that works better...

And with all changes to remote monitoring, you have to restart both this local client, and any remote clients. (Reboot is the simplest way)

Re: FAHcontrol can not connect to the client any more
I'm through with v6 now but thanks for the remark. As the v7 client is not accessible, the "Configure" buttons (in the local FAHcontrol as well as in the remote FAHcontrol) only offers one single tab which is "Connection". No "Remote access" tab any more... I think the default parameters are OK : local, 127.0.0.1, 36330, blank.
By the way, I was wrong in the first message : Idle or not, FAHclient runs two wrappers, one being 0% (CPU I guess) and the other one being 12.5% (GPU I guess based on temperatures) but it doesn't change the problem I'm facing...
And the short flashing word I couldn't read (that I mentioned in the first message) seem to be "Updating".
Any other suggestion ?

Uninstall, including the user data.
Then find the appdata folder for the fahclient (easier to find before uninstalling, as there is a link from the start menu). Make sure it is gone. Delete manually if needed, as it may keep some data here... \your user name\appdata\roaming\fahclient
Then reinstall.

Thank you, it solved the problem !
Can I then use the parameters you gave me to connect from a remote FAHcontrol ?

What is the IP address of your computer?
From a command line, run ipconfig /all
From a command line, run ipconfig /all

Re: FAHcontrol can not connect to the client any more
My router can allow (attribute ?) fixed IP addresses based on MAC address. My desktop computer (which runs the remote FAHcontrol) is 192.168.1.19 and my laptop (which runs the FAHclient) is 192.168.1.18
Re: FAHcontrol can not connect to the client any more
If there are two slots configured and processing, you'll see two copies of FAHCoreWrapper.exe and two copies of FahCore_xy.exe. If x = 1, it's processing on the GPU. If x=a or x=7, it's processing on the CPU. I've never seen FAHCoreWrapper use any CPU time. The FahCore_xy is the one that does all the work.Etienne_74 wrote:By the way, I was wrong in the first message : Idle or not, FAHclient runs two wrappers, one being 0% (CPU I guess) and the other one being 12.5% (GPU I guess based on temperatures) but it doesn't change the problem I'm facing...
What is the full name of the task that's using 12.5%? How many CPU cores does your system have?
