New Bonus Amber Core WU's [-advmethods option]
Actually I wish I DID have an issue with these, problem is I'm not getting any. I understand they've been distributed for a couple days at least and I've tried a number of times, but no joy. I've always had the -advmethods flag and have checked and double-checked that it's still there. This is on two AMD dual core machines, so each time I try that's two shots per machine. I'm showing 2046 meg of RAM to the assignment server (what FAH detected during installation) and I don't think that could be the problem.
I've been folding SMP units but I wanted to at least TRY these.
Any ideas??

Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's
What proof do you have that they've actually been released yet?
Last official word I heard came from Vijay a few days ago on 4/28. Vijay said:

Key phrase there is 'we hope to get those going out today'. That doesn't mean they have. I'd like to think they have but I haven't seen any either. I have seen no official word that they've started. They haven't been flowing yet, except for a few bursts and beta tests, but we hope to get those going out today.
Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's
I have absolutely zero "proof" whatsoever, hence the use of the phrase "I understand..." Yeesh, lose the attitude, my only reference was the same thing you quoted. Glad I'm not missing out, but other than that, who needs the snotty cross-examination??
Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's
No attitude, I'm on three forums and see quite a few people making assumptions like yours because they read more into announcements than there is. It's easy and human nature for something like "we hope to push them out today" to come across as "they are being released today". I try to assume very little until I see hard facts straight from the horses mouth.

Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's
Here's some more information about the "bonused" AMBER WUs:
These are currently running, and have been running since last Tuesday. There was a slight hiccup in getting them up and running because we needed to make the simulation lengths of the WU longer (10ns instead of 2ns) in order to avoid overloading the stats server.
Some of the beta testers have noticed that in order to get the "bonused" WU, they had to turn off the -bigWU setting, or set their RAM down (to 256MB, for instance). The more special settings you have, the more likely that our assignment server will assign WUs that require them. Conversely, the fewer of these settings you have, the more likely you'll get the bonuses.
Additionally, we plan to have the assignment weight go up for these projects soon, so hopefully you'll see more of these.

Except you do need the -advmethods flag still, right?vvoelz wrote:...

YES! Thanks for the quick correction.7im wrote:Except you do need the -advmethods flag still, right?
Have I mentioned how great the -advmethods flag is? Seriously, you should try it.
Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's
I have it set by default in my client.cfgvvoelz wrote:Have I mentioned how great the -advmethods flag is? Seriously, you should try it.
It's almost as great as log.
Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's [-advmethods option]
Vince, or anyone else, what is the project number range for these? Thanks!

4519-4521 at the moment

Ah, perfect! Now I know what I need to do. Thanks!
Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's
1) If using the Linux v6.02beta1 client, does this imply setting WU size to "small" or is defaulting to "normal" correct/preferred?vvoelz wrote:

2) Or is the Linux v6.02beta1 client, without the -smp flag, not a "classic client" able to process these WUs?
Greg
Re: New Bonus Amber Core WU's
Neither will work as these bonus units aren't able to run on the SMP client. These projects require the Amber core which isn't available on the SMP and other non-classic clients. See this thread for the official announcement.GTron wrote:1) If using the Linux v6.02beta1 client, does this imply setting WU size to "small" or is defaulting to "normal" correct/preferred?

Meanwhile, I woke up this morning to find two of my classic clients chewing on each their own 4519.
