Bass Beeping Noise coming from PC

Post by Kostura »

Hello There,

I just started the Folding a few hours ago, But i have just noticed there is a low pitched bass noise coming from my pc!
its beeping constantly when Folding,
Can someone please clarify what this means?
And can the Folding potentially harm my Computer/CPU/GPU ?
I have a Nvidia GTX550Ti
and a Core i3 2100 @3.10 ghz
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Should i worry about leaving the program running when i go to bed at night?
One last question

When i pick me a username, Mine is Kostura, and i enter the team.
Will my statistics appear on the Forum After a Folding projected was completed or does it upload during the process? Cause when i select, view user statistics the page appears blank as if there is no page at all :)

I' Appreciate any help!!

Thanks

Kind Regards

Kostura

For your stats to appear on Stanford's stats page you will need to complete and upload a work unit, then wait for the stats database to update which takes place every hour and from what I've recently read may take up to 15 minutes. I personally use 3rd party stats sites which are mentioned up top of this forum because they can provide more detail if that is what you would like.

As for the noise, my best guess would be that it is coil whine from the graphics card, assuming it is folding. Granted, I do not fold on my graphics card or run intensive graphics so I have never experienced this myself, I have only heard about it

Some components on a circuit board tend to vibrate. How securely they're attached and what noise absorbing or noise amplifying materials might be surrounding them can determine whether you can hear them or not as well as the frequency of the vibrations. Coils on a graphics card and VRs (voltage regulator components) are good candidates. Also, VRs can change both volume and pitch with the amount of power being used which means the sound can come and go. If it's particularly annoying, you may be able to exchange to board (provided you're certain it IS the board) or they might recommend an elastic material that can be put on the offending component.

Thank you guys a lot for your useful info
My Graphics card is actually a low noise version, It never ever made any noise, Only when FAH starts using it. otherwise all is okay. I think it might also be the setting i used on my pc, allowing High Power useage! :)
Anyways ill get it solved now!
Again.. thanks guys!

Kind Regards
