Which, naturally, simulated fine but server refused to accept it w/ "Server has already received unit" message.

This is an important issue but you didn't provide enough information to deal with the issue. You need to show the log for the download and for the upload of each of these WU. The server logic doesn't care when you start or finish processing a WU, only when it is actually downloaded and uploaded. Were these WUs assigned to "tear" or to somebody else? Please provide the MachineID and the right-half of the UserID that was involved so somebody can track the events from the server logs.
