What is this Fermi thing?

What is this Fermi thing?
I keep on hearing stuff about Fermi but I haven't seen any documentation on what it is.

Not sure where you were looking for that documentation, but a quick google search turns up multiple pages explaining that "Fermi" is the development code name for the current generation of NVidia GPUs.

Said NVidia development code name is a reference to the late scientist Enrico Fermi, I believe. Go figure how they intend to honour Kepler. Great advances concerning kinetics, I hope.

As already stated Fermi is the codename for any nvidia GF100 GPU or later. (basically any Gt4xx or later card)
