Often can't get SMP WU's

Post by klasseng »

I've been getting "No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit" for the last couple of days.

Mac OS X 10.6.7, 2 X Quadcore MacPro.
So I'm not getting WU's either with 6.29 or with beta 7 client.

Got 1 WU today 6051 (R0, C168, G404) from the server: 171.64.65.54

Now it's back to "No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit" for the last couple of hours.

According to the server status, 171.64.65.54 has lots of SMP WU's.

But I can't get any.

FYI

I've had to switch most of my SMP2 clients over to -advmethods because they've been having trouble getting WUs from .54 too. The cpu load is a bit high .... cooking up some new WUs maybe. The net load is a bit high too. Suspect problem will resolve itself after it finishes cooking. :ewink:

Using the -advmethods option I've been getting WUs on the first try.

Since adding -advmethods my WUs have been coming from 128.143.199.96 which appears to be getting low on available WUs so it might take a few tries. Hopefully .54 will be back in full swing soon.

This 'problem' with .54 has been going on since the P67xx projects were moth-balled and .56 was switched to GPU resulting in .54 becoming busier and running low on WUs, but it appears that in the last day or two more WUs have been generated and the available WUs has been going up.

Shouldn't be necessary, but make sure the work unit size is set to "big" in the client setup.

I have been getting this same error on my Windows SMP folding systems. Here is one that I setup for a team mate. This is the same reply I get when using other WU flags (wink wink). The systems are Windows 2003 x64 bit, Nehalem 4 core (HT enabled), 8GB ram with the 6.34 client. I do not use the 7 client yet due to Proxy authentication issues.

The -advmethods flag worked for me earlier today on both Windows and Linux but now I'm having the same problem getting work. :(

I've been having trouble getting WU's for the past two days. Got three fast machines sitting idle at the moment. At least it wasn't something dumb that I did.

MacPro Nehalem 8 core, 2 x 4 core i7's and a core2 duo MacBook Pro. Mac OS X 10.6.6, InCrease & FAHControl 7.1.24

What proxy authentication issues are having? Several have been fixed prior to the latest beta release of v7.1.24 and there is no ticket covering additional features. See the discussion near the bottom of https://fah-web.stanford.edu/projects/F ... ticket/591.

Well that is what I get for not keeping up to date. The last client I used was 7.1.19. Thank you Bruce. I'll take a look and do some testing. Been swamped at work and have had little time for extra activities. ;)
